Hello my friends,
i thought i would make an thread about how to get Battlefield 3 BETA to run pretty nicely on our R1's.
I have played several hours of the beta testing different settings and such and i have a great solution if you dont mind playing on a tiny screen.
UPDATE TO NEW NVIDIA BATTLEFIELD 3 BETA DRIVERS 285.XXX
-ALL settings to low.
-Resolution: lowest (in the 600/800 range)
-press Alt-Enter
-now your screen will be all black except the pixel range that the resolution is set to.
-enjoy nice framerates!
Also, set your audio to headphones, i heard somewhere on this forum that that option uses less CPU.
Comment, update, and enjoy!

I'm ready to do some testing on the beta, but I have to wait until Thursday b/c I didn't pre-order the game.

Thanks for the info! I wish I got a beta code looks like I'm gonna have to wait. I hate the fact you need origin to play though...

Okay so with FRAPs, im getting about 25 FPS on average, but get this, On everything ULTRA (just to see) My FPS is on average 19. just saying. Trying to optimize this is hard because no matter what options i change everything is pretty much the same.
I really wish they would release Caspian Border with 64 person conquest so we can truly test our systems limit but this is the best we can do....
NOTE: you will get no boost from being in Windowed Mode, so feel free to go fullscreen. -
That's great news! You think the finished product will run even better?
-
Downloading the beta now. Will report back when I get to test
I installed the beta drivers, running 1280 x 720, auto settings, and I'm getting a steady 22 - 25 FPS, with spikes up to ~ 35 FPS. Its playable, but I wouldn't exactly call it fun at that framerate. -
Hello everyone. I just installed the latest driver from invidia(didnt have one for bf3) and right when it finished my screen went blank. So i turned off the comp and then back on and nothing shows up not start up screen nothing, I feel lost now no idea what to do.

Hey guys. I tried to install the new drivers but when I installed them it switched to the intigrated graphics. Then I couldn't switch it back with either the ctrl + f6 or the bios. The only way to get it back to normal was to use system restore. Do you guys know of any way to installthe new nvidia drivers and still be able to switch? I need the battery life because I use my m11x away from power a lot.
Thanks. -
you cant, its either the new drivers and leave the nvidia chip on all the time or the old ones and have switchable graphics
-
I couldn't install the new drivers. The installation said it couldn't detect any hardware. I was on discrete mode too. Oh well. Guess I'll just stick with the 360 beta.
-
Thats a shame. Maybe this will pressure dell into updating the drivers for once.

What are you looking for in the newer drivers? Most of the driver updates will net you zero improvement. check release notes and user feedback as sometimes an older driver works better for a particular app (favorite game) than a newer driver.
What are the changes looking for after ver 263.x? If substantial then it might be worth losing switching option. -
I actually dont show any frame increase when using the beta drivers vs the newest dell drivers that I was running. The framerate is exactly the same.
Edit: I guess I should specify that the framerate is the same in BF3. I haven't played any other games to check the performance yet. I'm also running a lower gpu overclock because the beta drivers weren't playing nice with my other overclock. -

Be warned, I'm terrible at this game!! -
I installed the game and ran it, but I need time to OC the gt335 and currently im in the middle of school exams so :/ -
People can play this on the R1?
I tried it and its nigh on unplayable for me, cpu hits 100% and everything starts lagging and the sound goes all screwy. -
How are you guys installing the beta drivers? When i try to install them it says it cannot detect the correct hardware or something along those lines...
-
2) set bios to discrete gpu
3) uninstall nvidia driver
4) Use driver sweeper to clear out all the nvidia files it finds
5) Restart in safe mode, install new driver -
I was crashing like crazy playing BF3 Beta for the first few days then after reading a lot of post I got it to work today and play 3 hours so far and no crashes whatsoever and its perfect. I have an M17X R1 with 280s and I am running BIOS vA07 and I use the 257.38 driver from the Dell Driver site.
Note that when I upgraded to the newer driver 280.26 like the site told me I started crashing during gameplay, I upgraded my BIOS from A06 to A07 tried it that way and I still had crashing occur, so my next thought was the new driver I tried to install the 285.27 and the 285.38 but both drivers would not install on my machine saying it could not find compatible hardware. I uninstalled the 280.26 driver and installed the 257.38 from Dell driver support downloads and to my amazement it is running like a bat out of hell, no crashes and plays beautifully. When starting up BF3 Beta it tells you to upgrade to the new drivers but you should ignore that and just play with the lastest authorized drivers for your setup from the Dell drivers & download page. I am very happy that my M17x R1 is very well capable of playing BF3.
don't do it read my post. -
