Does it use the same glossy screen as the r2?
Does the canadian site lack any option for hybrid or ssd drives?
Also whats the diff between the wifi cards what is the 1x2 vs 2x2 in reference to?

I can only answer your first question.
Unfortunately, it uses the same glossy screen as Alienware M11x R1 and R2.
Not only that, the angles of the LCD is as bad as R1/R2.

Plus black levels are doubled, which equals twice as bad contrast, meaning grayish blacks and less of a pop. It sounded like Alienware improved the screen since the comparison between the $599 R1 and $999 R3 on their site highlights the screen as a R3 selling point, but that isn't the case apparently.
