    I'm trying to connect my M11xR1 with the latest Dell-provided drivers to my Samsung 2048x1152 monitor. I've tried VGA, DisplayPort Passive adapters and DisplayPort Active Adapters (this one: Micro Center - Accell DisplayPort to DVI Dual-Link Video Adapter Cable - 10" B087B-002B) but no matter what I do, the drivers will only allow me to set the monitor to 1920x1080. I see threads about others using the DP to run higher resolution monitors - what am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help!

    "plug your existing DVI Dual Link cable "

    Are you using a DVI dual-link cable? They aren't common. I needed one to get 2560x1600 on my Dell 30". It may be a requirement on your Samsung.

    HDMI should work, if your monitor has it. Later HDMI (1.3?) specs allowed for 2560x1600 resolutions and lower.

    HDMI-->DVI,however, won't work.

    I agree with MO, you will probably want a Dual Link DVI cable for it to work.

    I'm using the same DVI cable I was using with my Precision, which worked fine, so I don't think that is the problem. I've also tried using an HDMI cable directly and DP->DVI->HDMI to no avail. 1920x1080 always shows as the max resolution, but it never says "Native" or "Recommended" like I expect it to.

    HDMI directly should work. HDMI 1.3 allows 2560x1600, and the nVidia GPU supports it.

    DP-->DVI-->HDMI will not work.

    To get these kind of higher resolutions, HDMI is clocked faster. DVI uses another DVI link (dual link).

    DVI--> HDMI only interposes one of the DVI links to HDMI, while the other remains unused. DVI does not clock itself faster to compensate.

    That being said, I don't think that is the problem. May you try setting a manual resolutiuon into your nVidia control panel? (nVidia GPU must be active).

    My "Create Custom Resolution" button looks just like yours - greyed out (I can't even open the panel if the Intel GPU is active).

    huh... I just tried on another display, and it doesn't work!?

    I guess use Powerstrip...?

    No good. Powerstrip won't let me create a custom resolution, either. For the record, a USB DisplayLink adapter will let me use the same DVI cable for 2048x1152 (native) resolution with no trouble.

    I've now also tried a single-link active DP-DVI adapter, still no go (even though the adapter says it will support 1920x1200, I can't get over 1920x1080). Anyone who is actually running a monitor over 1920x1080 resolution with an M11x - what's your setup?

    Edit: I've also tried with my Acer 27" 2048x1152 monitor with the same results.

    I've managed my HP w2408h to 1920x1200 via HDMI on my R1, but that probably doesn't mean much... :(

    Well, I tried HDMI directly, but I can't even get it to go to 1920x1200 - it's stuck at 1920x1080. Just to test, I tried my Precision M6400 with the same displayport adapter, cable & monitor, and it worked perfectly.

    I guess if you could sacrifice the switchable graphics, just uninstall the ingel GPU and the nVidia GPU (in that order), goto BIOS, set discrete only, and install the latest nVidia drivers to see if that makes a difference.

    I doubt it will, though. Unless if nVidia changed how EDID tables were read from the HDMI/DVI link in the 19x -->2xx driver change. I've never had this issue, though.

    I do know ATi and nVidia drivers only read the first EDID block, while many TVs use at least two or more (strange thing).

    There is a way to pull a few pins on the DVI cable to blank out the EDID info, therefor allowing the GPU to output whatever it likes.

    Okay, so breaking the EDID on my DVI cable didn't work at all (but I have plenty of those) - BUT:

    I put the BIOS in discrete mode and installed the 258.96 drivers and now I have full resolution - one monitor via HDMI and another via my DP->DVI adapter. It fixed everything! Now I just need to figure out if I can have my Hybrid Graphics cake and eat it, too.

    In screen resolution -> advance -> monitor do you have the hide modes this monitor can not display checked? Or the setting of the screen refresh rate set differently.
    Just a thought, but may not be a solution.

    lol, that normally doesn't work. I was reading up on nVidia EDID, and their older drivers would overide all, even powerstrip, reg editing, windows settings :(

    I tried every possible combination of checkboxes (including the "hide modes" box), resolutions, refresh rates, powerstrip, inf, etc. I think it's just what Jeremy said - the drivers are overriding everything and the newer drivers work fine. I'll just have to sacrifice Hybrid Graphics for now. Maybe I'll get an R2 one of these days, or they'll release an R3 with some voodoo magic in it that I have to have.
