    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[UPDATE] - recovered the clocking and all appears OK, but have no idea how my processor ended up clocking around 900MHz when it was enabled as Over-Clocking in BIOS.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just noted a hardware change re: WEI and so I just did a WEI re-run.

Gave me a CPU rating of 3.4 Doh!!!!
    What's that about, should be 4.6 on an over-clock 1.6GHz M11xR1 SU7300

Had a look at CPUZ and it say I'm only clocking around 900MHz.

So I rebooted and disabled over-clocking in BIOS and now it's even lower at 797MHz

The Nvidia GPU still seems fine.

What's the general thoughts on this. So long, good bye and thanks for the fish???

Don't think I've done anything that'd under-clock the CPU and I'm assuming it's just failing 'gracefully'.

If I hadn't checked the WEI index values I won't have known anything was wrong.

The M11xR1 is 2 years old.

The following CPUz display is what it use to look like be things went south.

I wouldn't go on what CPU-z says to be honest fire up HWINFO and run the summary so that you can see what the cores are running at.

Make sure you are running at high performance and in the advanced power settings make sure you have the CPU set to 100% utilisation for minimum and maximum cpu management. Wack it on a prime test to stress it and see if the summary shows full speed.

Is this on battery or with it on AC power?

Also did you check CPUz while running a stressful program?

Hmmm... you might make me look a tad foolish, when I have an ah ha moment.

I don't mind the oh, 'my bad' if I get my full 1599MHz back again..

Just in a bit of a tizz at the mo ...

I checked the power settings and they seem OK....
CPUz has been pretty close to the truth in the past.

OK engaging brain and doing more checks.

    Update - HWInfo

    HWINFO-2012-04-13-1.jpg

Really odd... in all the time I've had my M11xR1 (2 years) I've never seen it clock this low..

I did apply a GPU volt mod about a year ago, but after that was applied I still had 1.6GHz

It's plugged in on AC with full charge and I check the power setting and both battery and AC are full (100%) max on CPU.

Just seems really odd... there is nothing indicating a problem other than I see really low clocking.

Speedstep enabled or disabled? Using Throttlestop?

Thanks for all your helps guys.

Throttlestop is generally for the M11xR2. Don't think it works or has any benefit on an Intel SU7300 dual core processor.

Yerp, I have Intel Speedstep enabled.

OK I re-nabled Over-clocking and pulled the power cable out.

So now running on battery with batteries at 97% charge.

Now I'm back... like a phoenix rising from the ashes.. well, a crusty old fried chicken anyway...

    cpuz-2012.04.14.ok.1.jpg

Now I have to work out what's going on...

does appear to me to be something to do with power settings with AC power applied and or the power supply.

I have read of power supplies doing odd things in the past ... but whether that affected the CPU I can't remember...

    Be still my beating heart....

I would check your performance settings for AC power it is going to be something like that. How does it charge? If the brick is on the way out normally it will not charge properly or extremely low.

55.95 Seconds for my M11xR1 SU7300 is about right clocked at 1.6Ghz.

When it was clocking at approx 700 - 900MHz I was only getting a wPrime result of 102.00 Seconds that is 'slower' than my Pentium4 3.2Ghz single core(2 thread) processor (~90Seconds).

WEI is back to 'normal'. I know WEI is a very rough indicator at best.

    Processor: 4.6
    Memory: 5.4
    Graphics: 6.6
    Gaming: 6.6
    HDD: 5.9

With the GPU and CPU over-clocked I'd get a best score of approx 6995 3DMarks in 3DMark06.

The run at stable but high settings returned 6863 3DMarks in 3Dmark06, so looks like things on my M11xR1 are stable again..

Your CPU was likely using some clock modulation throttling. This can happen for a variety of random reasons. You can monitor for this using ThrottleStop as well as correct this issue when it happens again.

This problem can be power adapter related.

Thank you unclewebb for that information.

I'll check out ThrottleStop and familiarise myself with the app so if my M11xR1 reduces the clocking again I'll have a better idea how to deal with it.
