after 2 years of painfully gaming on my MBP, I decided to replace it with a portable gaming machine, with the mx11 after submitting my order i kept looking what else is there and i found the xps 14. the Alienware I orderes is with the i7 and the 8GB of ram, and the xps 14 that i saw has the i7 quad core, and the 8gb of ram and a very similar price.

I notice that it seems the alienware has a better chipset Intel QS57 vs Intel HM55 , but well now not sure if I want to return it an move to the XPS.

Is the GPU better on the Alienware and if even if I move to the xps14 would i see any performance differences or it is just pure bragging rights that one has better cpu than the other, and I assume the xps will last less on battery.

Has anyone seen both machines and see any difference that the XPS will be better (it is also ugly, but something I dont care).

you will just be switching what kind of bottleneck you are dealing with. The M11x fares well with games that are more graphics intensive, where the xps will do better with processor intensive games. It depends on what you choose to play.

    +1 Alcal

M11X will do well with TF2 CS but when it comes to games like shattered horizon which is heavily physics based the M11x would probably chug harder than the XPS.

FWIW I don't own either system but I've been researching / debating buying the M11X for a few weeks now... I think I've watched every video review on the M11x on youtube... seriously.

I been watching the videos in you tube, and honestly i don't see any flaw with the mx11, I already ordered so no backing up besides returning and waiting again for something else, which I rather not.

It is funny, people had complained regarding the DVD, but i can't even remember when was the last time i used a DVD for a movie or even software on my computers.

    Cool man. What specs?
The only flaw is the hinge design which is widely known.

    this is what I ordered:

Alienware M11x, Soft Touch Stealth Black
Overclockable Intel Core i7 640UM (4M Cache, 2.266 GHz Max Turbo Frequency)
    8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 800MHz
    Alienware M11x 90W A/C Adapter
11.6-inch WideHD 1366x768 (720p) WLED, no WWAN Antenna
    1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M
    320GB SATAII 7,200RPM

and i am right now doing a lot of Starcraft II and WoW but at low res which I hate (yes i know, but still addicted to it) I don't even try anything else because it doesn't even run right, . But also I intend to use it for VMWARE and running other OS for work, which i don't see any flaw on it, well better than my Mac Book Pro late 2008(which technically is not good for any of both functions), ah well it runs OSX great ;-).

how much did the ram cost you to upgrade? I hope you didnt pay the $300 or $350 that dell charges you. You can get a 8gb kit on newegg for $90 or so.

The XPS probably has shared ram.

The xps 14 is for sure a sweet frigin rig! It makes me happy, it also has two new features with the HD camera and the 3D output to tv with hdmi 1.4. Yes for sure it is a sweet machine. Comparing both machines, being able to put an i7 quad core into it makes a huge difference of course. Im not one to get all worked up over quad core like some, but even I was suprized to see it in that machine. You can even go ahead and put in an 820 i7 if you so desire.

It really is 14 inches tho, in the specs so your going to be having 2 inch wider laptop. As fas as performance goes the 335m GT and the 435m nvidia your getting dx11 with the dell. I would assume the performance are on par with each other though.

i may go with the xps14 because it's mid-range model is cheaper than the m11x's more expensive model.
