i was watchin a youtube video of charlie rose interviewing quentin tarantino, and my laptop froze, and this loud buzzing came from the speakers. My laptop then restarted by itself, and it said "windows shut down unexpectedly". I don't know what happened, has this happened to anyone else?

This might be just a wild guess, but you can donwload the DPC Latency Checker and keep it running in the background to see if you get very high red spikes. We can start narrowing on the culprit from there.

This is definitely a processor voltage issue (1.73GHz is incredibly close to stable, but on a rare occasion it will do just what was mentioned, only not even reboot), I've had it occur a few times as well.

It's a huge pain when playing a game and having this happen without getting to save. It's so infrequent that I'm still inclined to leave it overclocked, but the uncertainty isn't acceptable.

Once the refresh comes out I'll probably ask for a new Arrandale motherboard.

mine did the same thing while playing half life 2. total freeze, buzz from the speakers (probably a fraction of a second sound playing repeat), then it turned off.

unfortunately it didn't do the turning on part when i pressed the on button. :(

I would ask for a full refund. I have mine running OC @ 1.7 GHz for what 2-3 months with only 1 BSOD so far (and even that was when I was playing Beta version of a game).

... or a replacement for the one that actually can be overclocked Sorry couldn't edit my prev post for some reason.

Same here. The Nividia drivers posted on the Dell site bricked my M11x, and now I can run the computer only on safe mode, otherwise the screen flickers uncontrollably. The problem is pretty annoying.

The new motherboard can't be used in the original M11x chassis, so don't bother trying to get support to send you one. It will not work...

Are you using like DIMMs in your system or do you have a single or unmatched pair?

I see no reason why alienware would cahange the chassis so early in the laptops life cycle. Though I wouldn't pass on the chance to bet alienware might have built better hinges foofr the machine.
