    Hi All,

I've just picked up a cheap M11x r3 model from ebay, and after reinstalling windows and all of the drivers, I've noticed that as soon as I launch any game without the charger plugged in, or unplug it during gameplay, my games have severe screen tearing. I've made sure that the correct graphics card is in use, and that the power settings are set to high performance, along with forcing Vsync in the games, but it hasn't made any difference. My drivers are also up to date, and I've even tried the ones directly from Nvidia.

Has anyone experienced this, or have any advice? I don't think that its a hardware issue...

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Probably due to the laptop either throttling the gpu or changing to intel graphics. Even the m17x throttles a bit when not plugged in.

    Hi,

The M11x was designed to game at full speed on battery, so I don't think that's what the issue is. I've had an alienware m11x r3 when they first launched, but never had this issue...

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks

It wasn't designed to run games at full speed on battery, it was designed to be the smallest gaming machine (at the time), as far as I know virtually all of Nvidia/AMD GPUs runs downclocked when not plugged in.

I had a M11X R3 and Nvidia 540M never ran at full speed on battery, that doesn't explain about the screen tearing though, and everything you've described shouldn't cause tearing, try using older drivers and see if that helps. (It usually does.)

I've had an M11xr3 before and it never throttled or had issues like this. I was up until 4am last night reformatting and reinstalling different drivers etc but I still have the same issue... :(

    Thanks

It's better to run the games while connected to the power outlet. Was there any Windows update that could have caused this?

    Hi,

I've tried reinstalling windows twice now, so it's not related to any windows updates...I'm really puzzled on this one. ..

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Have you got Vsync on or off?
