Iv been saving up some spair change to buy an m11x for awhile now. Not untill recently has it occured to me that there are other 14 inch model laptops, well the lenovo Y460 that I like alot also. I still like the m11x hardware wise more though with there ability to incorporate ulv processor's because I need extream portability.

The build quality is really bad though, so bad that it makes me wonder why I ever bought into wanting the m11x in the first place. I remember when it was first anounced I didnt think there should be an m11x. Alienware never had a portable unit before so why should they start now. I didnt pay any attension to it but it kinda erked me that they went ahead and messed with alienwares line of laptops bringing in a new different product that changed how people preceive what we know as gaming laptops and alienware. Well it seems to me its kinda a disaster, we have most of all there products falling apart made, the m11x, and are once great gaming line cant seem to even fix the issue.

How does it make the laptop gaming sector look when the main gaming rig company cant seem to fix a simple issue of hinge design. Its not like its rocket science. I think its just dell pissed that people are buying there pc's for cheap and took it out on defensless alienware product line coming out with a product that cant even stay in one peace.

Will the m11x r3 have a hinge that will work or not? Im still undecided about weather when my time to buy a new laptop comes if I should still spring for an m11x. Honestly I think the m11x r2 instead of processor/softtouch improvement what would have made alot more people happy is if it would have been something along the lines of "m11x with its new updated hindge redesign for a 100% fully functioning lcd screen" would have been more apropriate.

Now I still think m11x was a great idea even to my distain and you get alot for what you pay in my case. Im not bashing it, Iv seen just about every video of the m11x on youtube and there are literaly thousands.

It BETTER fix the hinge issue.

But that same issue was present from the old the Area 51 m15, iirc.

So I am kindof doubtful, but still hopeful.

Id say more dumbfounded, how could they make the same mistake twice. I didnt think much of it the hinge issue, but when the thread started geting alot of replys, what they have over 100 pages of people with all these problems yet no one says much about it. Maybee its just a moot thing with this line this time around for the second time. I dont get though how quality assurance could simply let this slip bye. Maybee theres some reasoning behind it like the laptop simply is suppose to only be used so long and after this the hindge finaly goes cause people would rather have a hindge go then have the entire laptop break down. Theres absolutly no way that QA would not know about the hindge problem the first time they powered on the first unit, especialy with a past line having the same problem. I mean just take a look at the different type of people building these computers. The alienware deveolpers must be pritty aragant. There alot different then say HPs employees. Maybee Im being a bit to synical and Im really the last to judge but it is how ever arising needless to say.

Another R3 thread... Do you ever get the feeling like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day... <Insert Sunny and Cher -> on radio "Hey, I got you babe..."
and you wake up and do it over again...

So to stay on target... to the OP
    1. No R3 in site yet
    2. No announcements of intel 4xx series gpu's in the m11 yet
    3. No hinge fixes yet
    4. No Punkbuster issues fixed yet

Dont know what else to say...

Iv read a few, I didnt know there were that many. Some one did tell me though that when ever you take a second number in a video cards line, if its not over 5 the card is junk pos not worth buying. So like, nvidia 425m, 4(2)5, 2 isnt above 5 so there for its not a good card. I didnt think it was true, must have been some yahoo.

    Good movie!!

I like to see these threads as it is still on topic -> m11x. Sometimes it gives the opportunity to some players to give out new info on the upcoming R3 as the older threads are moving far away from 1st page and god do we know that some peeps don't like to use the search... ;)

    @OP:

But the laptop when you actually need it. There's always something available. Maybe not perfect but decent. Unless Dell changes radically meanwhile I really don't care.

m11x by itself, even with hinge issue is pretty awesome. What's annoying for me the most is Dell's attitude and ignorance of the problems, pathetic laptop service, and a case of mild mental retardation of anyone you get to talk in their customer service. Instead of cleaning up their own poo (maybe AT LEAST extending the warranty for such a common design issue) they even suggest you to pay even more money and buy the extended warranty. And this is not the first time; remember the 8400m faulty GPUs. The hinge issue in particular is not the worst part, even if they fix it, something else can easily come up - I refuse to buy anything else with the level of "support" they are providing for their products.

sadly the search function of vbulletin is pritty bad if you as me. Its easier to scroll threw countless pages of threads then using the dumped down search of vbulletin. Some other might disagree.

I honestly haven't noticed any issues with the hinge on my r2... I don't know if the issue just hits some earlier than others or if certain systems are just "bad"...
The main gripes I have about my m11x are really things you have to expect with it's form factor: the cpu can be a bottleneck in processor intensive games. Also, having no gigabit ethernet is just moronic.. I constantly use wireless N since I don't want to deal with 100 mb ethernet.
It would be nice if the screen went a little closer to the edge of the bezel.
As for optimus, I really think that it made more sense than manual switching to implement; even with its issues.
Multitouch installed default would make sense to me too.

what kinda speed decreases do you get with not geting gigabit ethernet? I guess its never really come up in any other machine for me so im not to familiear with it. All I regularly use is 6 megabytes down and around .768 meg upload.

Fortunately, then, there is an alternative to vbulletin's search. Google has the "site:" keyword so that you can use it to search one site only. When I search, I use Google with something like "site:forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x r3" (minus the quotes). If you use Chrome, you don't even have to type the whole url in after the first time:
