Hey, I found these forums when troubleshooting some issues I have been having with unsteady frame rates in Call of Duty Black Ops. First and foremost I just want to point out I'm not a computer hardware "whiz". I don't really understand specs too well. I wanted to purchase the alienware m11x with the best specifications since I plan on using it for the next couple of years. The specs are:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU U 640 @ 1.20GHz
4.00 GB DDR3
and then the graphics card that is the only option through alienware for the m11x, I think it's the 335m.
Anyways, when I was participating in a discussion regarding my issues on the steam forums, someone pointed out that I got ripped off for buying an i7 processor at 1.20GHz. I'm not sure if it was a wise decision I made, but do you think I actually got "ripped off"?
I payed $1,100 USD by the way.

well it is not a true icore cpu since it only has 2 cores compared to the quad core versions of it on bigger size laptops.
M11x is a great laptop and those guys saying you got rip are 50/50 right/wrong, I do believe paying more tha $1,100 on the dell configuration brand new version is silly when you could have gotten the r1 for $400-500 less -
What do you mean not a "true icore cpu"? Even with your logic, this cpu is based off the i7 640m which is a dual core, and both the 640 and the 640um have hyper threading meaning the only main differences between the two is clock speeds and TDP.
And if you want to go by bang for buck, then yes it is techinically a rip off at $1,100. Right now for $850 you could get a refurbished G73 at Best Buy, which will obliterate everything compared to the m11x. Even new laptops for $1100, come with a 5850m or equivalent card with much better cpu, which is leagues better than a 335m.
The only things you are buying the m11x for is portability and battery life. If that is all you care about, then the m11x would be for you, except for its shortcomings such as hinge problems and screen touching keyboard issue. -
For BlackOps issues, please see this thread:

Feel free to post, lot of good tips towards the end of the thread.
As for discussion/debate on the 11xR2's i-7 CPU, we have threads for this - please use one of them.
Bottom line OP, if you are not 100% satisfied with your system, you should be on the phone with Customer Service and looking at returning it. Ignore the steam forum, I would guess 95% of those telling you your system was a rip in the forum thread most likely have never used the 11x.
Thanks.
M11x r2 a rip?
