Well, I will soon b starting college soon and I will be buying my first laptop, to be honest I am a total noob but I did some research and the 11x seem to b the man for the job, I went to the dell site and I saw it for 599 I couldn't resist after personalizing, it became 799, the only problem I have is the screen size I have not seen it in person, if someone can tell me how the size is using a printing paper that will b awesome and is ther any way I can get a discount, thank you

Use this coupon to get $50 any alienware product under $999.

When comparing monitors, resolution > size in what you can actually fit on the screen. Size is a personal preference, so just go to a bestbuy, microcenter, or any computer store around you and take a look at any 11'' monitor with roughly the same resolution; 1366x768.

    11.3 inches x 9.2 inches. Height, 1.3 inches

So the entire case is just over the size of a peice of standard 8.5x11 printer paper. The screen itself is probably 1.5"x3" than that dimension though. Your best bet to figure out the size of the screen is go to any store that carries netbooks, it's just over the size(screen at least) of an 11" netbook, the case it's self is a bit bigger though.

Most High Definition 720p LCD TVs are 1366x768 resolution.

These are the LCD TVs that came out before Full-HD 1080p was fashionable.

So just think of your basic LCD HD TV squashed down to 11.6" diagonal and you've got it.

If you're not outdoors the screen should be fine. And after a few minutes of use the screen size isn't even noticeable. It grows on you :D

    I switch from a 24" 1920x1200 Full-HD monitor to my M11x 1366x768 and it's quite workable.

Some people have bought their M11x to do graphics work. I question that, but they seem to think it's fine. So that's a few brownie points for the M11x screen.

I concur that resolution is a better factor than size. As far as gaming goes, it has never felt small to me. It can feel small to me for documents and some web pages in my experience though, granted I'm used to higher resolution screens. Many people, myself included, seem to connect their m11x to an external monitor/TV whenever at their desk, so that's something to consider. Since you're used to tiny screens, I don't think you will mind at all.

I don't have any problems with gaming.
Sometimes reading long documents requires a little more scrolling, like this 50 page paper I had to read about the quality system of a nuclear reactor. lol.
But then again, I carry my hdmi cable in my backpack in case i need a bigger screen(at the university's library).
