I remember a discussion about a full protection skin for the M11x sometime early last year when I got my M11x r1. Now that I'm about to get an R3, I'm interested again but I can't find it.

I searched here and found pretty much every thread ever made. I searched eBay and found palmrest and outer LCD protectors, including a leather-texture one that has me interested, but I want something that protects the easily-scratched power panel above the keyboard and the front as well (clear skins).

I hate to think that I need to buy a protector for the front screen, protector for the palmrest and back of the screen, protector for the keyboard (yeah, I'd skip that), and STILL have some of the most-easily scratched parts exposed. Does anyone make a COMPLETE kit? How about one that's otherwise complete without LCD protection (I already ordered the Green Onion Supply AG2 from Dell)?

FWIW, if you never peel the plastic off that was intended to protect the panel LEDs during shipment, you may not have noticed how easily scratched the strip is (the LEDs are hard enough to see as it is, though).

I'm pretty sure that that is the company I was thinking of. Thanks! I can't really tell if they protect the front grill but it looks like they DON'T protect the indicator strip. :(

It doesn't cover the indicator strip or front panel? Darn. :(

no problem, and i cant seem to find any protectors or skins that protect the indicator strip by the screen, you could buy the skin and make one for the indicator stip?

You could take it to a Zagg store and see if they will custom do stuff for you. Once you buy the original kit have them make some extra parts

The laptop comes with a plastic sheet over the power bar above the keyboard, if you wanted to protect it id just leave that on, its almost invisible anyway. Surprised they didnt do the same as this to the speaker bar also

I've seen a kiosk that didn't appear to be set up to do something like that. Even so, the front grill is kinda intricate. It might make more sense to cut up some generic screen protectors.

Yeah, but half the point to a protector is that you can just replace the protector if it gets damaged. I can't replace that when it starts looking bad. All I can do is remove it and let the future damage affect the surface instead, which is what happened with my r1 (it didn't take long for parts of the film to lift and stretch and look ugly).

It should be easier because they aren't clear and small bubbles don't matter. The main issue I see is that there are easily scratched glossy surfaces that they do not cover. I looked on their website and their selection is prohibitively huge. I literally couldn't sort through them all! The couple that stood out to me the most were the metallic-looking hexagonal mesh and the hex mesh with red racing stripe (works better with the matching wallpaper).

Well, I have the leather protector from ebay ( KH Special Laptop leather Skin Fit DELL Alienware M11x | eBay) and I can tell you that I'm very satisfied with it :D. I have an R1 and you should know that this thing is not fingerprint proof, and well, this thing doesnt let my fingerprint stay on the back of my LCD. It does it work really well. I highly reccomend it.
The only bad thing about this protector is that it takes (relatively) a lot of time to arrive, at least with me it took around 1 month to arrive (Well, I live in mexico, so maybe they had problems sending it...) but otherwise is awesome!

(If you want some pictures, i could post some so you see how does it looks on the R1 :))

I really like the leather back protector I have on my iPhone 4 too, especially how it does not change the visual aesthetics. That's particularly why I'm interested in the leather protector I see on eBay. I'm glad to hear that an actual owner likes it as well, so I'll probably order it. I order things from China quite frequently and am used to the wait (waiting on a few things right now). The thing is that the r3 has a "soft-touch surface" that should be a lot better at resisting scratches and fingerprints, so it may not be necessary.

You know, another reason I want full protection is to cover the area around the ports so that feeling around to insert a USB cable or something doesn't scratch up the sides.

I seem to remember seeing an Invisible Defenders design just like 420 except with a red vertical band/stripe around the whole notebook and encompassing the touchpad like 300. I can't seem to find that particular combination anymore. :(

Well, the Invisible Defenders guys had me take measurements of the r3 microphone spacing (5cm). They are 2.5cm from the webcam center. The r1/r2's single mic was 1cm from the webcam center. It looks like they are either going to update their skin to fit all or make an r3-specific one. Disymmetric cut-outs to fit either sound a bit funny-looking unless they make one long 5cm oval, which would cut out quite a bit of the printable graphics area. Two different models with exact cut-outs would be ideal but unlikely.
