Hi folks! Just a quick qustion.. Best buy or Dell for an M11x?

Warranty worried here... I have an M11x from Best Buy ( within my 14 day return policy ) it is ' open box ' but wasn't .. Was opened from Best Buy to ' install an antivirus ' so I got a 709.99 $ deal. 4 gig ram.. 250 momentus. Core2Duo.

Should I worry about the warranty? ( didn't purchace the Best Buy extended Geek warranty )

Added Note : If I go with Dell ( Via responces on this thread ) Should I do a i5 or i7 instead ?

Thanks to all of you replying..

    PLEASE HELP! : )

Personally, I went with Dell... If you spend about 20 minutes googling coupons, you can knock off $100-$300 off the final price depending on the campaigns of the moment. I went with i5, because I felt the i7 didn't warrant the extra $170 (I put that money into an SSD instead, wise investment).

Really though you'll be fine with the C2D $800 model too. All of the processors for the m11x are very comparable in performance.

Definitely pick up the extended warranty, there is a well known hinge issue going around and I'm sure at some point you'll need your screen replaced.

Never buy a computer from a place that also sells washing machines. Just my take on it.

Best Buy = Depot service I think which imo is a horrible idea.

Buy from dell and have @ home service, not to mention better price from Dell outlet. I do suggest extended warranty, 3 yr minimum.

You still have a warranty through Dell for the M11x for a year

    1) Buy from Dell if you can. Dell is a company whose employees are trained to sell and service computers. Best Buy is a company whose employees work for minimum wage and are trained to sell you "extended warranties". I'd much rather buy my computer from a computer company.

    2) The "open box" is because someone bought the laptop and returned it. Nobody would open an M11x to "install antivirus"... that excuse is BS. First, the M11x already comes with anti-virus pre-loaded. Second, are they implying that the laptops that are UNopened don't have anti-virus software on them already? If you want to save money by buying a used laptop (which is perfectly fine), then get it from Dell Outlet.

    3) You have nothing to worry about with the warranty, even if you bought from Best Buy. You can always extend your warranty through Dell, or buy an extended warranty from Squaretrade.

    4) If money is an important factor for you, then go with the Core i5. You don't get any noticeable performance benefit from a Core i7 in games or desktop applications, unless you are running video encoding.

I took the Best Buy one back.

I ordered one from Dell outlet.. they only had the i5.. I got the i5,4gig,250hdd +2yr accident = $1040.
    At the outlet, $809 was the core 2 duo, $939 was i5... then - 20 % .

    That a good deal? ( I can cancel it! ) /grin.

I have purchased from Dell and Dell Outlet over the last 10 years. I have always been taken care of in case of failures by their tech support for anything that was under warranty. Most of the time I will buy the extended warranty for the laptops due to the fact that they are mobile and get bumped and banged around more than a desktop. It is also harder to replace some parts than it would be in a desktop. On my M11X R2, it was bought from the outlet for $780 shipped to my door. I have had it now for about 4 months and everything is fine. My lid does not contact the keyboard and the hinges have not had any funny noises. It arrived to me in good as new condition and has performed flawlessly for everything that I have thrown at it. For me, the i5 was powerful enough since I am not an avid gamer. I only play 3-4 different games and use it for office work and light photo editing. You would need to determine what you want to use it for to qualify the i5 or the step up to the i7. Either way it will be the best 11" laptop that you can buy IMO.

That's because I bought the last i7 on Saturday :D It sounds like a good deal. Mine was a lot cheaper but only because I passed on the extended warranty since they always call me later and offer it for less.

I just googled "Dell outlet coupons" and looked around until I found one that worked. I think the one I used was 20% off and expired today if I remember right.

Hmn I would totally won't mind the core2duo. I'll consider swapping if you buy one with bluetooth, and a warranty that ends in about 6/2015 x).

No shipping, meet up face to face deal, and my momentus xt not included x). It came w/ 160gb HD.

Mine came with 160gb, 5.4k and this thing was crawling. Gave up and bought me a momentus xt, and I have to say it was 130 bucks well spent.

I also have 2 [email protected] running RAID0 on M17x R2, and M11x boot time is nite and day difference between the 2. Not 100% sure on loading games since I barely game on M11x, another reason I won't mind c2d x).

If you can find an SSD deal with 120gb, priced at about 200, that's not bad at all neither, but having 500gb space storage w/ pretty fast boot time is pretty nice too.
