So I need a new computer. I've been looking at a bunch, but the M11x looks so dang nice that I'm almost set on buying it. However, I'm wondering if the M11x will be suitable to be my main computer for tasks such as schoolwork, internet, and music. My last computer was a MSI u100 Wind netbook and it did fine for me. My question is, do you think it's worth it to buy an M11x instead of a more all-purpose laptop for everyday things?
I'm not a hardcore PC gamer right now but I do play Gunz and I might get into PC games more if I have this computer.
Thanks!

Of course it's an all purpose laptop!!!
A gaming computer can do anything a regular laptop can do. -
There are plenty of existing threads here with lots of people chiming in on the question you've posed. Spend some time reading up on what others have said. -
It's great for everything you described.
HOWEVER, if you don't game then there are cheaper options that would suit you just as fine.
Though a base model R1 would probably be great. -
1.gaming
2.everyday use
3.everything else -
This computer is definitely right for your needs.

I use mine for everyday use.
It's even pushed my 17" gaming laptop to the wayside.
I really love my M11x -
I don't see why you wouldn't want one for every day use, unless you're on a budget.
Even if you're on a budget, the R1 is fine, although I have to say the i7 version feels faster than my Q6600 desktop in every day windows use. But I can't get it to have good battery life. -
Thanks for the replys everyone.
where is the best place to buy an R1? and is it a bad idea to buy it from the dell outlet? they are refurbished but they do cost less. -
Don't count out the R2 until you call i just ordered and i5 with some extra goodies for 905 including taxes

also look at the what is a good deal thread -
The most reliable places to buy your machine are directly from Dell or the Dell Outlet. Refurbished machines are fine. They are not technically new, but can easily be considered like-new condition. They are in perfect working condition, and will have any cosmetic damage (scratches, discolorations, etc) described for you in the product description page. Most importantly, it comes with the Dell return policy and warranty intact.

I use mine for every day use, it has replaced my desktop as it runs everything i throw at it very well.
Games
Photoshop
Movies
internet
photos
etc... -
Save your old computer for , downloading. M11x for everything else.

Hey mate, I'm in nearly the same boat as you.
I'm going to use my M11x as a work notebook first, gaming second.
I really wanted something portable, but I cannot stand slow computers at all. I need something snappy and functional, but also with respectable battery life and weight, and look cool too.
I went for the M11x R2 because most of the things I do are processor intensive. -
Well, earlier today I saw a guy in another post say the Dell outlet had a R1 SU7300 with a 256gb SSD for around $900.
Depending on when you need a laptop it might benefit you to wait it out. Every month or so I see deals on slickdeals for the Mx11. I got in on one recently and got the following:
i7, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD, BT, free overnight shipping for $957 from Dell EPP
too bad BCB is gone, a day after I ordered mine some people got my same build for over 100 bucks less, don't think they got the free O/N shipping though -

It runs flawlessly, same with Illustrator, dreamweaver, etc..

it is definitely a good everyday use computer; the i5 and i7 are both powerful and fast and can handle everyday general tasks
-
The only caveat that I want to mention is that the M11x's screen isn't the best. It is fine for gaming and general application use. But is not going to have the super-accurate color reproduction of professional level monitors. If you are using Photoshop for design layout and creation, then you should be fine. But if super-accurate color is important, you might want to hook it up to an external monitor. -

I also got my m11x r2 for everyday use, including limited gaming, and it runs anything I've thrown at it so far.
