Yes, you should install the wireless driver. First you need to identify which wireless card you have. The M11x has two options:

    1. Intel 5100
    2. Dell 1520

You can determine this by looking at your invoice or using your Service Tag here:
    http://support.dell.com/support/top...info/details?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=anavml

Enter your Service Tag. Click on the Original System Configuration Tab and look for your wireless card in the list.

As to the order of driver install, I suggest this order:

    - Chipset driver
    - Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver
    - ST MicroElectronics FreeFall Sensor Driver
    - On-Screen Display Manager Application (OSD)
    - NVIDIA discrete graphics driver
    - Wireless network adapter driver
    - Audio driver
    - Bluetooth driver
    - Touchpad driver
    - Media card reader driver
    - Command Center application

I had to do a complete system reinstall on my Dell M11x and the wireless went down the drain too. After several months of hair pulling this finally worked for me. Go to your Device Manager and look below network adapters you probably will notice there is no icon for your 1520 wireless adapter even though you KNOW it is in your machine. Just below the network adapter icons will be ANOTHER icon for network controllers with a yellow exclamation point on it. Click on the network controller icon to update the driver with ver. R228550 1520 wireless driver (unzip and install first) from dells support site. Afterwards restart your machine and your wireless card should be running again.
