Just receieved my M11x in today and did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate. I have tried to use the Intel drivers suppplied by Dell on their website and the drivers supplied off Intel's website but neither of them will work. Has anyone else run into this issue after having done a clean install?

Are you sure you have the Intel 5100 and not the the Dell wireless card?

    I've the same exact issue.

Clean install of Win7Pro, everything but the wifi drivers (either from dell or intel) load up. I get a 'hardware not compatible' error message.

I've installed via the exe as well as a manual (Have disk) and notta. Very frustrating.

Are you guys sure you have the wireless enabled in the BIOS. It needs to be enabled prior to istalling the drivers. Also like SVTSnake stated. Make sure your using the right wifi drivers from the dell site as there are two differant ones.

My wired/wireless options are enable via the BIOS.

I've reinstalled the intel chipset drivers/files and use the drivers brought up via my service tag.

Under device manager it's listed at 'Other Devices' 'Network Controllers'

    This blows.

When you enter your Service Tag the page displays the list of drivers for the model - not for your exact configuration.

You need to check your invoice and find the wi-fi card line to determine the card or you can check here (you will need to input your service tag, click on the original configuration tab):

    Look for the wireless entry.

Then perhaps you should go with the Dell AW Wireless driver for the M11x and not the Dell Wireless driver for the Inspiron Desktop 400(Zino HD). ;)

I use the 1520 driver for the M11x daily - without any issues.

    DW1520 Win7 32/64 Customer Installer - 5.60.18.8
    Release Date: 2/22/2010
    Version: 5.60.18.8, A02

    Compatibility
    Alienware Laptop M11x
    Alienware Laptop M15x
    Alienware Laptop M17x
    Alienware Laptop M17xR2

Sometimes... the most recent (version#) driver is not always the best driver. :)

As I stated earlier in thread, you probably don't have the Intel 5100 card, instead have the Dell 1520 card. There is no way to select the wireless card option when placing the order. I think it depends on what they have on hand at that particular assembly line, or which is closest to the assembler at the time. I wish I could have chosen the Intel 5100 card over the Dell 1520, but mine came with the 1520. I wasn't to happy with the performance of my 1520 with my D-Link DIR-855 router, so I purchased a Intel 6200 card for $35 and its been happily ever after.

Might I suggest that if you can, you slap around the web monkeys who organize the support pages?

The 1520 seems to be working just fine over my (n)etwork, now that I was able to weed through the support site for the proper driver.

No need - the support page for the M11x, Dell 1520 driver is exactly the driver I linked. ;) Even if it were broken, not much I could do about it. lol

Glad your problem is sorted out. Enjoy the system.
