    M11x R3 not booting

    help it just shows the first boot screen and doesnt proceed to windows. it doesnt enter the bios either. what seems to be the problem?

    Any beeps or anything while it does it?

    Also, Does the first screen stay up there or does it go black and have nothing else come up. Has it worked before and just given out recently or is this the first time you have turned it on?

    Could be a number of simple things that cause that, but it could also be a lot of bad things.

    it finnaly got off the boot screen and then a disk read error came up..what do i need to do to fix this..its only 5 days old..it doesnt beep or anything and i just used it yesterday

    did you drop it or anything? a disk read error is a bad hard drive.
    try disconnecting the battery and wait 5 minutes, press the power button for 15 seconds to drain all the power, plug the battery back in and see if it works.

    nope.. no drops of any kind.. ive connected the hard drive in an enclosure and the disk works fine..defragmenting and diskchecking now..hope this fixes it..will try ur suggestion later :D

    your using the m11x hard drive in an enclosure on another computer? do you have any other boot devices connected to your m11x? maybe its trying to read those before it reads the hard drive.

    yup i am using an enclosure and nope..i have no other drives connected when i booted it..

    hmm. do you see the alienware bootscreen? with the f2 options at the bottem?

    yup i see it..already entered the bios btw and loaded the default settings. also the HDD is detected on the bios..checkdisk found some errors nd still defragmenting now

    ahh. im pretty sure its just a bad hard drive. just have dell send a replacement.

    its ok now!! weeee..apparantly the disk check and defragment worked :D thanks for your replys :D

    Sure it's not trying to boot to some USB drive you have connected?

    I would still suspect that it's bad if something corrupted so soon.
