Just a quick one, I would like to know whether the same battery is used across all M11x revisions. And whether it's bound to fail after a year (~300 cycles?) as some people are getting.
It would be frustrating to have it die after a year with a new one costing $200. I'm planning to buy an R3 later this year.

Well the R1 and R2 have the same battery.
As for whether they are the same or not... they have the same capacity so I think so. -
My R1 battery was made by some SDI/Sanlite or something, R2 Samsung.

2) Because of that, it doesn't matter who makes your battery, the capacity, etc. Your laptop battery will last around 300-500 full discharge cycles. Period.
3) If you want to extend the life of your laptop battery as much as possible, you should:
(a) Avoid unnecessarily using your laptop battery, when AC power is an option. People who report battery failures after 1 year are most likely doing daily full dis/charge cycles.
(b) If you must use your battery, it is better to do partial dis/charges, than full 100% --> 0% --> 100% dis/charge cycles.
(c) Avoid keeping your laptop plugged in all the time, and your battery constantly at 100% charge. Because of the chemistry behind LiIon batteries, 40% charge is the ideal charge to avoid unnecessary wear on the battery.
* - Apple is the exception to this rule. They use a charging circuit on their laptops that helps preserve their battery lifecycle upwards to 1000 charge cycles. -
^^^ Apple and Sony use Li-Poly.
