    Hi

I'm starting to think i need one of these to help with my day to day life, but wondering if there is any combo I should avoid - have heard i7 had over heating issues?

I use my 14 in the office all the time, but thinking a M11 would be better (lighter) to take around with me

Looking at the R3 as it was the last build (shame)

    Any thoughts guys

    Thanks in Advance

I have not heard of any overheating issues with the i7 processors, personally. At least not with the R3 i7 cores. The R2 used a first generation i5/7 core so I would assume that the overheating issue, if there was one, would be liable to occur in those models.

As for the 11 being significantly more portable than the 14, don't try to fool yourself. Yes, the laptop is slightly smaller, but it is still plenty heavy for an 11 inch and the size difference isn't significant enough to noticeably improve mobility. As well, keep in mind that the 11 has a smaller and lower resolution screen (1366x768) which does get in the way of effective use sometimes.

As for the specific build, the R3 is probably the best choice. It's still powerful enough for new applications and came with the fewest number of issues.

I agree with most of this, except for the portability. The m11x is easier to carry around because you need less space in your bag to put it in. The weight is not that different from the m14x though.

Anything close to over heating was solved for me by upgrade to a SSD. It never really over heated but it did get hot before. I have an R2 i7 model... The SSD is easily the best way to improve the machine.
