    Hello all,

I have come across these forums and am interested in any feedback from you. I am mainly a console gamer but have been getting back into PC gaming lately. My main machine was a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz C2D with a 256 MB NVIDIA 8600GT m.

I recently sold that machine to get something a little more updated for games. I was reading good things about the Alienware M11x R2 and found an i7 with 500 GB HD and 8 GB of RAM for 1030.00 on Dell's Refurb site. So I picked it up.

The system is scheduled to arrive tomorrow and I am having second thoughts if it will be able to handle gaming for me in the future.

With a 1200 price range, would you recommend keeping the machine or going with something else? I ran across the Sager Notebooks and their prices seem pretty good.

I would prefer a notebook because I don't want to have a desktop as a gaming machine so I can take it with me and play wherever needed. Size of screen doesn't matter but it just seemed like I was getting quite a bit in the M11x R2. Just am wondering if the slow processor may hold it back in the near future.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks for the help!

Since screen size doesn't matter to you (I'm assuming here you mean notebook size doesn't matter), then you shouldn't even consider the M11x. The same performance is available at the 13-15" screen range at hundreds of dollars less than you paid for that M11x. The M11x is for people who want as much power as they can get in a small package, not for people who more simply want power (nor for people who simply want a small laptop). Smaller = less powerful + more expensive

As it's already on the way to you, you might as well give it a test run and see if it exceeds what you were looking for in the first place, however.

    What corwinicre said.
The M11x is really meant for a person who wants as much power, as portability.
A nice 15" Asus would sound good for you.

Thanks for the reply. Part of the appeal is the small size. But can anyone give examples of an i7 with a gig of video ram for less than 1200 total price. A matte screen is a plus too.

Curious to see what else is out there as my knowledge on this subject is not good.

Matte screen will be hard to find for that price I think!

It looks like an HP Envy is going to run 1400 bucks to get a better i7 processor when I spec it out on HP's website. Is there a particular model or set of options I am missing?

Also, I have run across these notebooks:
custom gaming laptops - Welcome to Sager Notebooks

Is anyone familiar with Sager notebooks? They have a NP2180 model with the 1 GB HD ATI 5650 (DX 11 Compatible).

I thought the M11x R2 was for me too, but I ended up getting rid of it. I put on a screen protector to get rid of the glossy glare-y screen and that helped. The processor and graphic power of it just wasn't enough for me. I don't mind the extra weight of a 15" to have that much more power.

I only take the laptop to work and back home. Not much more than that. I ended up just trading my M11x for an M15x w/ a 5870 mod installed, straight trade. I think I made the right decision for my needs.

Others will say that the M11x is perfect because it's their lifestyle. They need or want very much the portability. Don't look at the M11x as a "gaming laptop made small" but a "small laptop that can game". If you want to believe the M11x should play games at top notch level because "it has an i7" then you should check out the 15" laptops like mentioned above, and even in your post.

Just giving my input and my experience. I hope you find what you like and works with you. If you do fathom to find something, check out MSI. They have decent machines, and I'd probably prefer them over Clevo, Sager, and Asus.
