the two usb ports on the right side of my laptop don't seem to work.
it works for few seconds at a time then it wont detect usb. does it need driver or are they broken?? i'm out of warranty but i'd love to fix this ;(

the one on the left works perfectly.

Go into your device manager, dissable all usb ports then re-enable them.

I am having the same exact problem except none of the ports are working. The one on the left shows power to the mouse but will not run the device, the ones on the right do nothing. I have ...

    disabled/enabled
    uninstalled, rebooted
updated drivers (Renesas Electronics but when I try to open the usb 3.0 host controller it says it is not found)
taken out the battery, waited and restarted.

At this point I am ready to wipe the whole machine but the problem is I can't because my windows is on a flash drive which I need a usb for.

Can anyone help me?? I am loosing my mind...

Have you checked the Bios? maybe worth loading optimized default settings.

    Regards.

Yea, and it can't hurt. I haven't even changed any of my BIOs settings, just restore them to factory and see if it helps.

Easy test. Plug a usb keyboard on the busted port. Try to to go in the bios with the usb keyboard. Check the keyboard light behavior. This test will only let you figure if its a windows problem or a hardware problem.

    I hope it help

I think that dead usb ports might also be one of the m11x flaws.
sometimes reflashing the bios or resetting the bios can help.
if not its most likely failed hardware. probably a resistor or something that has burned out.

add to this that windows+usb+deviceissues = odd connectivity problems. How many have seen a known working device fail to connect on one port then work perfectly on others? Same "dead" port works fine with other devices.

I second using BIOS as a test. KB in bios panel working fine would indicated hardware is ok.

Hello, maybe is also a good idea to check the general power setting on the computer.
-Try yo boost them to High Performance.
-Also under device manager, deactivate the "Turn off to save power" check box under each USB device:

    Start>Search: Device Manager>Universal Serial Bus Controller>USB Root Hub>Properties>Power Management
    Start>Search: Device Manager>Human Interface Devices>USB Input Device>Properties>Power Management
