M11x R2 Parts help

got my r2 i7 last Nov 2010 and noticed problems with my hinge. It wast starting to wobble and got misaligned but it wasnt as bad as the ones i se in some pictures. ( I think the razer kabuto also made the hinge issue worst hehe) I read through this forum and I recently fixed my hinge. I reinforced the weak plastic parts that held the nuts and fixed the 6 broken ones. Then used epoxy as a filler to also hold the magnesium part in place and let it dry. Did a little dremelling to make space for the metal hinges then applied a fair amount of epoxy then screwed the hinge them back on the fixed nuts. I have it cured for more than 24 hours now. And its holding up great (It should also be alot tougher now esp after i loosened the hinge a bit.)

Anyway I'm happy with how my hinge fix went but as I was going through the status light board the ribbon on the left side prob got shorted a bit and turned the laptop on. I was surprised and almost hit my face on the table when I realized that I didn't take the battery out! I quickly shut the laptop off. A soon as I tried to turn it over to remove the battery the ribbon might have touch something and shorted again but this time it burned!

Now I have been looking for that part everywhere but sadly most of the sellers sell the whole palm rest instead of just the ribbon.

Now my question is that if the m11x part I get online is from an r1.. is it the same ribbon that the r2 is using?

I really cant tell from the pics. Maybe you guys know a way to get the part number or something like that so I can order from dell. Or if anyone here might have a spare in hand Id really appreciate it if anyone could help me out.


The ribbon has 16 pins is 8mm x 102mm and says: "HAMBURG-SH E235863 AWM 20798 80C 60V VW-1" Its one of the 3 wires connecting to the status light board. Documentation

anyone know about the ribbon cable i need?
If I buy an r1 Ribbon cable will it fit my R2?
