I have a m11x R1. I want to run windows 8 MSDN. Will the windows 7 drivers work ok?

What are the best video drivers to run under windows 8? It appears almost all of the drivers are already installed without me having to do anything. I'm downloading the new Nvidia drivers for video, but it already has the wifi working and such. Are these drivers better then the now very old dell drivers?

If Windows 8 generic drivers are working fine I would just leave them like that. I hope you don't get issues with the nVidia driver, just as an FYI we are providing support only to Windows 7 at the moment but you can check here for the games that have been tested to work on Windows 8. I believe there was a thread on the main forum.

I installed nothing more then the newest Nvidia video driver and the Windows 7 tracpad software just so I could have it not work when a mouse was put in. I don't have any problems at all. Windows 8 auto detected everything and even just recently updated the wired Lan port earlier. I don't have any issues at all.

Do you do a clean install or an upgrade?

Can you report if the battery draw is equal/better/worse than windows 7?

So far it is working properly on my R1. While the Win 8 install removed the Nvidia control panel and switching utility, I just re-installed the Dell 263.08 drivers and it restored switching functionality.

I'm testing now to see if there is any effect on battery life.

edit: The netflix & hulu metro apps do not work with the Intel drivers from the Dell pack. I would assume this is because they do not support hardware flash acceleration.

There is a problem with the audio. It is terrible. Random pops and clicks. I used the generic drivers and realtek drivers and the problem still exists.

Oficially Dell doesn't support Windows 8 on the M11xR1. However according to different users the drivers in the Dell´s support website seem to do the trick.

Any chance to get an official graphics driver for the M11x R1 for Windows 8? It would be great even if it was a "beta" release like has been done in the past.

I have been running W8 RTM on my R1 almost from the release date (that is 3 months ago) with the default drivers from DELL with no problems at all , no sound clicking, binary GFX running fine as well as bluetooth and card reader, all perfect....

about the power consumption, after some optimizations it's very similar to W7, according to BatteryBar it draws arround 8.000mW with IGP.

I don't think so. Sorry about the inconveniences. It is not officially supported.

mine refuses to install the 263.08 drivers. it just says failed when using the nvidia utility. if i try to force them thru device manager it fails worse, and my screen blanks out.

my solution was to go into bios and disable the "switchable" option and set it to discrete only.
Then i was able to update to the newest nvidia version 306.97 at the moment, not counting the beta 310.64
