    Hi, All!
    I got a M11x r1 on the black friday.
It cost me $600 with the specs list below:

    SU7300 @1.73Ghz
    4GB DDR3
    GT 335m
    160GB (5400rpm) Hard drive

I kinda regret I didn't $50 more on the hard dirve.
I'm wondering is there any big differences between 160GB (5400rpm)
    and 250GB (7200rpm) if I'm playing games ( like SC2, COD6, etc...)

    Thanks

It'll load games faster and you have more space. You probably won't notice a difference.

    Thanks for reply.

Yours have the same specs as mine, how much did you pay?

7.2k drives will load things a bit faster because of higher read/write speed and access times, but outside of synthetic benchmarks its hardly noticeable.

Funny, I kinda regret upgrading to the 250Gb drive instead of getting in on the Momentus XT deal over Black Friday/Cyber Monday. The good news is that you're almost certain to find a better/larger drive for $50 in the next couple of weeks.

    It sounds sarcastic......
Actually, I thought there was difference on the rpm. I thought they were the same. I didn't want to spend $50 for 90GB space. (I'm a poor college student)

It wasn't sarcastic at all! There is a difference in rpm. All I was saying is that you could spend the same money and get a better drive than the one Dell offers you. I didn't realize that when I bought it--for the $50 that I spent on the drive upgrade, I could've bought a 500Gb Momentus XT during the sale. That's what I was suggesting that you should just wait to see what deals appear over the post-xmas sales (there are bound to be some).

Edit: as for gaming performance, you won't notice a huge difference other than load times as was mentioned above.

Yeah aside from loading stuff and reading stuff off your HDD, you won't notice much between 5400 and 7200. You begin to see drastic speed increases when you reach SSDs.

save that 50bucks collect money for 2month and maybe in 2month or 1 the SSD's price will go down and your m11x will be more sexy XD

I don't want to crash the party, but there is a noticeable difference between a 5400RPM and 7200RPM drive. If you have the patience for the machine to boot up and things to load, not a huge deal. But for $50-$60 like others have said, you can probably find a better drive with more space.

However, since you'll only know the 5400RPM, going to a faster drive later will be like a nice perk. If you can get a Momentus XT cheap, I'd say go for it. But a regular 7200RPM drive will do.

i'm running an R1 with the default drive. No reason to give Dell your money when you can get another drive for the same price that is probably double the size. I'm running world of warcraft on this thing like a champ. I asked for a new drive for christmas. I might be getting an SSD for Christmas and if that happens I will go that route otherwise this is totally great.

Running 5 man instances without problems on my R1. Love it!

I haven't seen any of the M11x-R1 laptops actually running at that speed so can you post a CPU-Z screen shot? Most can only run at a maximum of 1596 MHz at idle or full load. If Dell promised you that speed then maybe ask them to explain where the missing MHz have gone.

    $989. No special sales, sadly.
