Would you buy it if it was this price? I'm thinking about buying it off a seller, just have to drive a couple of hours, the brief specs on it though are of course very minimalistic:

    Core 2 Duo SU7300
    4GB RAM
160GB (5400RPM i presume? dont know what stock speed is) HD
    1.0GB GT 335M

tell me your thoughts. with gas prices and stuff it should come to 300.

Make sure to turn it on and play with the hinge a bit before handing him the money.

Your right, I have actually asked him about this, and he has told me the tech came around and fixed it, so now I just want to double check it and as well play with it to see if I can use or possibly buy it and sell it on ebay lol.

    I would go for it.
Test it out to make sure all is good and if so.... buy it then sell it on ebay if you decide not to keep it.

ALSO, make sure you get him/her to transfer the warranty to you before leaving (log onto dell site etc..)

Jump on it straight away, if you dont like it in a weeks time you could sell it on for more than you paid very easily

Any number of things could be wrong with this laptop. You need to give it a full inspection, make sure the wifi card works ... make sure it isn't BSODing all over the place. If it's a decent condition R1 for 250.00 then that's well below market price, and I'd be very skeptical. My intuition says something is wrong with this laptop.

I'll just say be careful and if you can snag a decent condition R1 for 250.00, props to you sir.

So I did everything you guys said, literally spent 4 hours with the guy at his house, after I told him I wanted to check out the wifi and other things. The ONLY drawback, was, and he was upfront with me on this, was that his warranty was over. Other than this, I noticed NOTHING wrong with the machine itself. Also for my hassle of driving down there, he gave it to me for 175 dollars lol. Typing this from the m11x right now =)

Awesome, you snagged a good deal. Now here's the question:

Do you keep it and hope nothing happens, or do you sell it for 3x as much, and then get a new laptop so you can have a warranty. :p

basically he used it for a year and he used it for school, but instead of using it for schooling he'd use it as an excuse to game at school. he pulled the trigger on selling it so he can concentrate.

As for keeping or selling it, I'm considering actually selling it after I'm done my 3 week tour of Japan lol. At least then I can try out the m11x before selling it off and deciding whether an R3 actually might be worth it (or if the R4 comes out one day I might/might not consider it since I've actually used one before).
