I was at a Cisco event in Las Vegas this past week and unbelievably I was getting about 8 hours of battery life on "Balanced" setting with brightness set at 1 bar. Granted I was mostly doing very light web browsing with WiFi and viewing some PDFs, but it was so nice to use the notebook like this for six hours and still have plenty of battery to spare.

    (m11x R1 with a SU4100 CPU & 7200RPM hardrive, no bluetooth or WWAN)

This is pretty standard with the R1, it really is a netbook and gaming PC rolled into one.

I am so disappointed in my r2, I really was expecting similar battery life off gpu, I get 5:30 for browsing, steam downloads, etc. I haven't tried but I might be able to pull 7-8 off listening to music.

I took my notebook to work last week thanks to Steam sales (bought quite a few games and bundles)

Started downloading around 8:30 (1 bar brightness, alienfx off, intel video) up till around 4:00.. I still had at least 1 hour worth of charge left.

    I was very IMPRESSED.

    It is quite impressive.
Another post introduced me to BatteryBar.

    M11xR1 battery discharge rate

I see one can get the Discharge Rate down to around -6000 mW when the system is idle.

I got a discharge rate of -14500 mW while playing a full screen DVD from local HDD in the background and Firefox 3.6 with USB dialup in the foreground.
This equated to around 5hours battery life.
