I have the original m11x which I pre-ordered and received back in February. The machine has been working fine without issue since it was shipped.

Yesterday, I plugged the m11x into my 60 inch TV :) with HDMI to watch a movie. I started VLC media player (best media player around) and then suddenly there was quiet ZIP noise. The computer shut off immediately and now the computer has absolutely no power. The LED doesn't come on when the computer is plugged into power and I get no response when pushing the power button.

I need to call Dell, I'm sure. I want to know if maybe there is a known issue that I haven't come across here on the forum. I also want to know what kind of advice you other owners might have. Thank you in advance.

I have never heard of that. I mean never. Is it possible the hdmi cable caused a short in the notebook? Thank god for warranty.

Hope all goes well.. speedy recovery.

The HDMI came from my Xbox 360 and went directly into the m11x and then back again. The Xbox is still fine. I guess it's possible that maybe it wasn't plugged in securely but I don't know if that would cause an issue. I didn't bump the cord, I wasn't even near it as I was waiting for the media player to start and was getting the furniture arranged.

Was the M11x plugged into power or using battery? If plugged, maybe energy fluctuation caused it.

I was using power, with the battery charging off.

So power fluctuation/oscillation may have damaged the M11x. I would check the power in the wall socket where the M11x was plugged in. Have you had any occasional flickers of brightness from the lights at your place lately?

Anyway, also try to use other AC adapter... Maybe, just maybe, only the adapter was damaged, but I wouldn't know why the M11x is not running through battery if so (unless the battery was discharged or can't be used if the bios was set for battery charging off).

We have had storms in the area lately so it is possible that you are right. Although, it was not stroming at the time.

The battery had enough power to power on so I don't believe the AC adapter is the issue. The bios resets to battery charging on once the computer is shut down to prevent the kind of issue you described.

Sounds like a power surge... Can your computer boot?

put on the battery , hold the power button for over 1 minute then release and try to turn it on. let me know if this works... I had a dell m12 and this method returned it to life :)
