    Hello
My OS was crashed and I could not recover it so I installed non-alienware windows ultimate 7 64 bit and installed nvidia drivers successfully(after heavy efforts). but when I try to switch from intel to nVidia graphics by Fn+F6 it shows Save power --> Increased performance, in Device Manager nVidia display adapter shows momentarily-for a minute or two- and then nvidia graphics disappears from DM and even savepower-->increased performance also disappears ultimately. on right click on desktop, I could nt find nvidia graphics properties, it shows intel only.

Any help appreciated. at last I tried with 16-March drivers.

sound likes software conflict, you should use DriverSweeper to uninstall the old nVidia driver completely, just follow this progress:
    Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

@leo6love noep its not working that way too(I have used other driver sweeper as Guru3D has removed links for download). then I restored windows to first restore point and tried again same result. Now I have completely installed windows from scratch(not repair or upgrade) and without installing anything I have installed nVidia 263.08 graphics driver ie 16 March. but now when I press Fn + F6 i cannot see Save power --> increased performance screen and still HDMI is not working means if I attached TV through HDMI, alienware is unable to detect another monitor. my windows 7 is - 64 bit.

Have you tried the drivers from Dell's website? My R3 HDMI (along with other things) didn't work right unless I used the dell version. Then I could update properly from nVidia's site, it all worked fine.

I am using drivers from dell site only.

Does the R1 use Optimus? If so perhaps the intel drivers are at fault?

R1 doesn't use Optimus. Only thing I can think of offhand is to boot safemode and delete Intel and NVidia drivers, then reinstall both.

Edit: But it sounds like you've tried something very much like that.

    Try this:
Go to Device Manager, expand "Display adapters" and right-click and click 'Uninstall' and tick 'Delete the driver software for this device'.

Restart when asked, and do it for both video cards.

After that, go back there and right-click and click 'Update driver software', then click 'Browse my computer for driver software', 'Let me pick...' and now click 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter'.

Do this for both graphics cards and restart if asked.

At this time, in Device Manager, both graphics cards should be called 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter'.

    Now, run the driver cleaner/sweeper.

    Restart if asked.

Now, try install the Dell 263.08 driver.

After the driver is installed, restart when asked.

If that doesn't work, try the same with the previous Dell 197.72 driver.

I tried the process, it did nt work with 263.08 and then I repeat the process with 197.72 and 188.55. now with 188.55 the problem is that as the login screen comes, it goes blank and then reboots. one more thing, As I have noticed "Mobile Intel(R) 4 express chipset family" gets loaded everytime I install nVidia driver. this may be due to hybrid driver. other thing, whenever I set both adapters as standard VGA and reboot, it make one adapter as intel chipset 45 microsoft WDDM... and when I right click on that it just give option to uninstall, there is no checkbox to delete from the device.

with 197.72, I can change from save power to increased perforamnce from tray but as I said it shows nVidia adapter appears momentarily in DM(device manager) and then it disappears. no output on hdmi port.

    namaiki is correct.

You can ONLY use DELL supplied Nvidia drivers for the M11xR1.

    M11xR1 drivers

you can NOT use Nvidia drivers sourced from nvidia.com and then have switchable graphics on an M11xR1!!!!

HDMI/DisplayPort will only work when Nvidia GT335M is engaged.

VGA (M11xR1) will work with the Intel GMA.

If you had both graphics cards set as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" and it didn't work, I might ask to others:

Does the M11x R1 have a BIOS option to disably hybrid graphics and force only the nVIDIA GPU to be enabled?

If it exists, I think it would be advisable to use this mode to check if the nVIDIA GPU is still working properly.

I have tried with Graphics as 'Discrete' instead of 'Switchable' but no luck. Even I remove and install again the drivers in Discrete mode and tested but still problem persists.
