Hey guys, looking in to overclocking my GPU. Installed the Nvidia performance tools and opened up the device settings tab but can't really make heads or tails of it. The only place I see the core, shader and memory clock sliders is in the stored profiles sub tabs. I have adjusted them but don't know if they have actually been applied. Also for some reason the factor shipped frequencies box is grayed out... where am I going wrong?

TBH I would not bother with the Nvidia tools and download MSI afterburner.
It not only allows you to overclock your GPU but also acts as a monitor (temps, clocks, GPU usage, memory usage, frame rate and a few others - which I don't use) when in game (as long as you turn the OSD on).
You can also set up to 5 different profiles (1 to come on at startup) for your different overclocks.
Finally as it's basically Rivatuner underneath you get the nice graphical read outs of temperature and clocks over time. -
Thanks for the reply. I ended up downloading EVGA... should I still try MSI?
Also do I have to restart my computer every time I want to change the clock speeds? Do I have to keep the application open?
Cheers. -
MSI has an option where you can select your settings to be enabled everytime the computer is turned on.

Also while we are at it, let's talk about the optimum overclock rates too?
Heh.
I've notice that the card will downclock automatically to 405/810/324 when something hits..I'm not sure what, perhaps temperature but it was incredibly low, top I had was 62-64 degrees at 550/1200/825.
If I pushed it a lil more further, say, 560/12xx/850, it will automatically downclock when I run some games. -
Unfortunately it looks like you have hit the limit of your GPU on the "stock" voltages. I should note that this is the core limit and not the memory (the latter would show as visual artefacts as the 335m doesn't have ECC).
Built2roll - EVGA precision is very similar to MSI afterburner in terms of what it offers up. I am not sure how it handles profile management but with afterburner you can change the clocks on the fly (alt tabbing out of the game and selecting a different profile works for me).
I must try precision as I have hit the MSI afterburner max of 585/1404 (core / shader) without a problem. -
Xaser - your sig says you're OC'd at 1.73ghz Is that confirmed with cpu-z?
My Bios says I'm at 1.73ghz too but cpu-z has it at 1.66 -

Thanks for the tips guys. EVGA seems to be working fine for me... but to be honest I haven't seen much if any improvement in the games I am playing. was hoping to get Blackops more playable and boost fps in NFS but I guess they are bottlenecked by the CPU.
Also downloaded CPU-Z, where can I see what speed my CPU is running at? I definitely have it overclocked in the Bios. I see 1596.0 MHz under Clocks (core #1) but that doesn't seem right. -
awyongcarl - There isn't a lot you can do if you are getting resets at clocks above 550. The only suggestions I have is try a different set of drivers (you may lose the switch able ability if you run anything newer than the Dell drivers (197.72). You might also try a combination of higher core but lower memory (or vice versa).
built2roll - You will only notice a big difference in games that are heavily GPU limited. I re-ran Metro 2033 last night with a overclock of 575/1380/1760 and I could notice the difference from my previous clocks of 550/1320/1740. I wasn't expecting to see any difference but it was there (Custom settings used @ native resolution - modified config file (mixture of low and normal settings)).
BC2 on the other hand only shows moderate improvements as most of the time we are limited by the CPU not the GPU.
Other games I have seen a difference with GPU overclocked are Just Cause 2, Mass Effect 2 and Batman. Left for Dead 1 & 2 show no difference. -
Thanks for all the help guys. Much appreciated
