    Hey everybody,

My m11x's fan started buzzing about 2 weeks ago. Up until this point this computer has been everything its cracked up to be.

The fan is still spinning and blowing out air, but now it makes a high pitched buzz that sounds like it is just barely touching one of the other objects that populate the area surrounding the fan (ie. cooling fin, or fan blade rubbing somewhere). Can I take apart the computer without voiding the warranty or is there one of those stupid stickers inside somewhere saying warranty voided if broken?

Thanks for any and all advice.

It's most likely the tape that used to seal the inside of the fan chamber. You're going to need to call Dell to have them send a tech out to replace that tape. Search the forum for other reports of this.

I had the same problems a month ago, i bought the laptop in us but i live in in EU so i have to fix the fan myself. And of course you can open up the m11x without voiding the warranty. This video will tell you how to teardown your m11x YouTube - ‪Alienware M11x Teardown **READ SAFETY PRECAUTIONS PRIOR TO REPLACING PARTS** (Official Video)‬‎. To fix the fan noise you only need remove the palmrest, you can access the fan from therere. I remove the fan blade and put some oil in and it back to normal.
