    Greetings,

I've searched and looked, but cannot seem to find the precise type of answer I'm looking for to the topic question.

Basically, with my M11x R1 SU7300 4gb Win7 system, where I have just swapped out the HDD for the 500Gb Seagate Hybrid HDD, I would like to upgrade my RAM from 4Gb to 8Gb.

Should I be getting Kingston, Corsair or another brand? Is it just a simple matter (as my computer store guy tells me) of turning off the M11x, opening the bottom case, unplugging the old and plugging in the new RAM, and then switching the M11x back on and letting Win7 take care of the new RAM?

Thanks for any tips suggestions or recommendations!

yes, it's that simple. Just look for:

    8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 SO-DIMM rated at least 800MHz (PC6400) or better.

Most common should be 1066MHz (PC8500).

Thanks Jeremy - Should arrive tomorrow. Any tips for un-installing and then installing new RAM?

Unplug the battery and charger, first.

Dumb question, won't that consume way more memory than normal? and how much did you pay for those memories?

Some applications I run are memory hungry so it's there when I need it. Converting from 4Gb RAM to 8Gb cost about $240. Anyone wanna buy 4Gb RAM? ;)

Glad I ran across this thread. I was doing the same thing, and swore I must of got the wrong RAM or something, because I couldn't get the R1 to boot with the 8 GB in. Turns out both 4GB sticks were DOA =[ Good to know it can be done without some magic making it work. (RAM was corsair btw, which apparently has a lot of these DOA complaints)

I got my 8GB kit from crucial.com $150ish including tax & shipping. The newegg.com deal seems better, but i'm not disatisfied with my purchase. I posted my 2x 2GB sticks on CL for $60 - and offered to install for free for someone else weak in the knees.

Same here for my 15" laptop. That G.Skill is decent memory. Problem is that the price keeps jumping around. Went from $90 to $100 to $115 back to $100, now it's back to $115.
