    Hey all,

Been stalking this forum for a while and thanks to discounts from my work I can afford an Alienware M11x without going over my budget and spending too much like I did with my XPS M170 years back for £2k to have it eat many GC's before it's warranty died out leaving me with a dead laptop :( .

I have a few questions which I don't believe i've come across while roaming which I could do with answers if you don't mind helping me out.

I'm planning to get the M11X, but from seeing the tests with the I7- how does it stand with the I5? I know there are countless debates between users over C2D and I7, but I would like it slightly future proof with more CPU intense games/programs coming out without spending an extra £180 on an I7 bringing me over £1K. So would you say Intel® Core™ i5 520UM (3M Cache, 1.06 GHz) would be an adequate/good futureproof CPU or should I go for the original Intel® Core™ 2 Duo SU7300(1.3GHz,800MHz,3MB)? Also is there a significant difference in heat between the two? I know the I5 of course will be higher temperatures, but is it a small/high difference? -Not Solved.

I'm more leaning towards R2 with I5 and 3Gigs Ram - Possibly 4, but I can't really see it being a drastic upgrade. Opinions?

Also I know it's a 11.6" Widescreen. But could someone put up the full height/width of the laptop closed in " or cm. Which would allow me to get a feel of how small it really is? (Can't seem to re-find it on the forums -Solved.

Cheers guys for all your help.

After one day with mine what would I have done different?

I might have looked harder at the i5 but probably would have gone with the i7 anyhow in the hope that more power will be available in future.

I would have just got the minimum memory and bought my own 4Gb of faster ram. I suspect that this is one of the limiting factors in OCing. However, it was a set deal for around £250 below list price so :)

Be really convinced that this is a small machine that is a good tradeoff of portability and power.... if you want one of these more than the other look elsewhere.

Im going for the i5 next month too : ). I would like to read more reviews/opinions regarding this model, because (like op said) theres a lot of info/benchmarks/videos from i7 and c2d but nouhing related to the i5.

@Surfxombie, cheers for you input. Though swapping ram voids warranty right?

Yeah, I managed to find the size online a few mins after my post  : 11.25" x 9.19" x 1.29". So i've cut the size of the laptop out onto some paper and it's actually not that bad which has made me more inclined to go with the M11x.

@Aleloco, definitely agree with you there. Hopefully someone will give us some information regarding the I5.

if you want more power from a BETTER laptop, try getting a desktop, because nothing as small as the m11x beats it. :)

Replacing your memory does not void the warranty for the laptop. Obviously the new memory won't be covered though.

You could allways hand onto the original memory and swap back in.

I often make models of what I am buying so right with you there :)
This time it was the same size as my existing netbook so much easier.
