and maybe some arctic silver 5!

*crossing my fingers* Comon Alienware, convince me to sell my R1 already!
-
I seen the inside of M11x so i know there is no more room for fans. So the extra heat will be a problem BUT i do hope they can squeeze in both a faster CPU+GPU.
Somehow it will be even more sexier then it is, heck i might even buy one -
hmmm the new proposed GPU would be practically under the radar of probable improvements. i guess they would create that option and making a larger fan or a second fan can still be mounted on. anyway, i guess alienware would create a higher option for those who would opt to get a powerful setup. me, i would love to get one. i am still enjoying my m11x R1. if these new GPU CPU would arrived, i will be getting one and give my R1 to my wife hehehe
-
Thinking logically, the m11x is doing well. If Alienware wants to keep the momentum they will keep the gpu up to date.As they have done with the m15 and m17x. though the m11x does not have any direct competition and alienware has not thrown a mobile 400 series gpu in anything, so all i can go by is what the 7 reps now have told me. 4 say sometime this month and the other 3 did not now what a 400 series video card is lol
-
i always get a chuckle when people believe things that reps tell them. The reps barely know anything about current products, why would they be informed on unannounced ones?
-
I know this argument is pretty much over but if a computer is "running at 30fps" and hits an intense moment, it WILL dip below 30 and stutter and maybe mess up your game (you might get killed in an FPS, or PVP, etc).
If you're running 45+ and you hit a dip, you might sense the slowdown, but you will still be able to play.
Thats the bottom line, man. Theres no arguing. If you're game runs at 30fps, you WILL see a slow down at some point. -
Can they really add more powerful components without sacrificing battery life? Battery life is one of the big reasons I got the R1. If the M11x starts getting 4 or less hours on integrated and less than 2 on discrete then I don't see the point of this machine.
-
New gpu woul be GREAT! But i would rather have the hinges fixed and a brighter screen.
-
Honestly I would like to see an ATI card for better battery and less heat for the same real world performance.
-
if the g335 can run Medal of honor&black ops smoothly, then there no reason for the new m11x
-
I sure hope this rumor is true. This defective m11x is going back to dell tomorrow for return...
I'll wait a bit to see if they improve the m11x. If not, I'm grabbing the 3820tg timelineX. -
Will upgrade next year if Dell actually bothers to upgrade the screen along with the graphics card. I'm assuming that they will upgrade the plastic screen to something that has less flex than what the current screen has. I could care less about CPU speed, so I don't think I'll spring for the top processor the next time around if it's going to offer significantly less battery life.
-
I'm waiting on getting one of these. I'm going travelling in 5 months time so will be selling my Desktop to help fund one of these.
If there is a more powerful CPU/GPU combo i'm all for it. As long as I can get 5 hours of standard AVI or mp3 use for long coach/plane/boat journeys i'll be happy. I'll only be using it for gaming one the nights off in the hotel.
I'll have to see about getting it from the US though. A high spec i7 one in the US comes in arround the same price a the bottom spec dualcore in the UK.. -
I sent back my Rev1 m11x. All the lights died just after a weeks use+ i had some other problems with the keyboard and the casing. I got a Macbook Pro and i'm very happy with the build quality but i miss the size and performance off M11x. So if they make a upgrade i'm all in for a second laptop which i can actually carry around in my bag.
Hopefully they have fixed the minor glitches -

I just want to chime in and say that, although I was skeptical of this little beast at launch, it's absolutely the best laptop I've ever owned.
I'll be upgrading the second the GPU gets refreshed, for now, my R1 is excellent. -
If it has usb3 and they bring back the vga port then maybe finnally the m11xr3 will get my $.
-
i need just a "pinch" more GPU power on my m11x R2; i WILL own 2 if this rumor is true and the GPU benchmarks are 15%~ higher. Anyone interested in a barely used m11x r2 lol.
-
-
was thinking about picking one of these maybe tomorrow. Should I wait the month and see if the new one comes out? OH man.. Im going crazy without a gaming lappy at the moment.
-
I loved my m11x R1, it was just the screen that let it down! Put a decent screen in there and I would buy another in a heart beat. Until then I will be enjoying my envy 14's radiance display
-
a new screen would be nice but they will prob keep the same one untill a redesign comes to the table, the specs for the GT 435M do look impressive tho take a look NVIDIA GeForce GT 435M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
-
A new gpu would be nice. I would have liked to have seen an ati 5650m instead of the 335m in the first place. DX11, less expensive, lower TDP(I'm pretty sure but not positive), and nearly equivalent raw power, I think the 335m has the 5650 by 3-4% in raw power. That still makes for a win to the 5650 in my opinion. The cheaper gpu could have make the option to jump from su7300 to i7 a bit more reasonable if the overall cost were cheaper. Heck, they could have put the gpu savings into making better hinges or a nicer lcd.
-
im right there with you cliffmidnite, i would have liked to see an ati gpu even just as an option when the r2 i7 came out. Im sure they considered that as an option but for whatever reason decided to keep the 335m. My guess is becuase the 335m is cheaper than the 5650, and thats why they took that route but who knows, im just speculating. All i want is a new gpu and ill buy it right than and there i dont care about the price! any other improvements would just be a cherry on top

I'm curious what ATI's 6000 series will bring to the mobile gpu lineup. I wouldn't be surprised if next gen of m11x had an ATI card. The 5850/5870's are pretty popular in the 15x/17x. Why not round it out into the 11x too(obviously a low powered part). If they don't make an r3 till next year, ulv i5/i7 cpu will probably be cheaper too and there might be faster ones too. AMD has a 25 watt quad that could fix all our cpu bottlenecks too.
-
-
Yeah, that's too bad about the premature issues with optimus on the r2. I would be pissed if I kept getting kicked off my online games by punkbuster.
-
I am NEVER! going to believe another rep again! i just got done talking to one via chat. I asked if there is any news on a new gpu, he told me that he doubts that they would update the gpu again sense they updated it recently already. I than asked him what he was talking about and he told me that it was updated from the 330m to the 335m. I than told him well that would be the exact opposit of correct! and that ive had the m11x r1 sence soon after the release date. He kept insisting that he was correct and saying sorry sir you are not correct! god what an idiot!

Im guessing i recieved that answer due to outsourcing lol

Hay. hay, hay... HAY!! Had my M11xR1 for 6 months and yesterday I used my VGA port for the first time I'll have you know. (It works )
[moment of quiet reflection...hmmmm analogue...]
BUT it's crap and a waste of space which could be used for an HDMI 1.4a port. The type that has a 100Mb Ethernet channel.
1xHDMI 1.3a out, 1xHDMI 1.4a, DisplayPort, IEEE 1394, Media card reader, ExpressCard slot, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0 and an nVidia GT 435M (DX11).
Gosh, I'm coming over all funny just thinking about it.
@mardon - This is just a list of specs to Father Christmas cause I'm beginning to think he has better quality control. It doesn't reflect what may or may not be in a future M11x upgrade from DELL. -
^^that^^ would be amazing! I'm going to hold out until after Christmas too see if this comes out.

Guess i'm not famailiar with display port but i'd want to be able to run two monitors off this thing. Hence Vga and hdmi

My brother in-law has ONLY VGA monitors in his home office AND he has four of them... now that is sad.
BUT
One can use a VGA adapter on the DisplayPort along with the HDMI port for two connections when a VGA port REALLY IS required using an M11x.
Then Bobs your auntie.
Only a few weird and wonderful things built in the last five years come with a VGA only port. AND you wouldn't buy a device with a VGA only if the same device has a DVI/DisplayPort/HDMI option.
Analogue is REALLY old school. A lot of countries are dropping analogue TV signal support in favor of a digital signal.
VGA was good in its day, but it is analogue (signal is in wave form and not digital ones and zeros) and on most implementations limits the screen size in older GPU cards. You just get an analogue video signal and that's it. Using a VGA CRT monitor and VGA connection the screen can be seen to 'swim' a bit due to signal noise.
DVI was designed to replace VGA and a step up as there is no need to convert the signal to analogue in a pure digital environment and with most GPU cards higher screen resolutions are supported. DVI is widely supported on older GPU cards, but it does not support audio (DVI/HDMI converter required). There is no further development in DVI.
DisplayPort is a step up again with a digital signal and the ability to support audio. The audio path supports up to 8 channels of 24 bit 192 KHz uncompressed PCM audio. A lot of newer GPU come with dual DisplayPort and one DVI port. Its Open and royalty-free. Can support 4 Full-HD 1080p60 monitors on a single cable. Active and passive adapters can be used to support DVI/HDMI/VGA connections. DisplayPorts are becoming very popular in computer monitors and computing devices and are aligned closely with HDMI.
HDMI is the daddy. It's widely used in both consumer and computer products and like DisplayPort supports both audio and video. It also supports a few more signals like Consumer Electronic Control and etc HDMI is licensed and costs a few cents for each device. HDMI 1.4a also supports a 100Mb Ethernet Channel.
An option of nVidia or AMD GPU card on an updated M11x would be nice. -
ATI option for m11x as well as more resolution on a 13'' screen please....!!!
Would like a ULV processor at 2Ghz !!
And someone PLEASE FIX the damn screen hinge issue, its been there now for ages on almost every single alienware laptop, GOD COME ON!
VGA is nice to have u do need it sometimes. Used it once after 8months on the R1. You could use DisplayPort to convert to VGA probably but i am not certain if it can be done. -
There have also been rumors of hinge upgrade fixes, but we know they were just rumors.

I had the R1 and didnt notice a problem. I really am interested to know since i had several other issues with my R1 which is why i returned it.
I'm very interested in R2 or rather R3 now that i know it will come sooner or later so i want to make sure they fix all the glitches before i order. -

yup hope they make a ATI option for m11x and it would be very nice addition

Any word on when or any trade shows coming up that the r3 might show up?
