I swapped my HDD for an SSD. I see some sites say to tell windows 7 to never spin it down. How do I do that on an M11x which uses the Alienware software?

Does that do anything on the M11x if the Alienware software is running? I thought the Alienware software over rid that.

You should go into Windows Services, and disable the AlienFusion service. It is known to conflict with Windows 7 Power Management. That should be done on every Alienware M11x, regardless of whether or not you need to tweak the HDD-spindown setting.

click the start button and type in msconfig and press enter. Go to the services and uncheck it and make sure its not in the startup either. Then just apply and reboot.

Start Menu --> Control Panel --> System and Security --> Administrative Tools --> Services

In the list, find the "Alienware Fusion" service. Double-click on it, and change Startup Type: Disabled. Hit OK through all screens.

The service will no longer start when you boot your machine - which is what you want.

No, the two do not fight each other. Alienware's fusion is a 'interface' only. Adjusting a setting there will change it in your power plan and vice versa. Test it... try changing your display blank time in windows and then check Fusion - you'll see the setting is the same. :)

Well since batboy said they don't fight each other i'm just going to leave mine on. I thought if you change it in the alien software it wouldn't change it in the windows. But thanks for the Quick reply :D

I have to disagree with you here, BatBoy.

There is a known issue with Windows 7 screen dimming setting... the screen would dim after a (configurable) idle period has passed, but would not revert back to original brightness once you were non-idle. Disabling Alienware Fusion solved this problem, which is why I recommend disabling it... especially since there is no added benefit of using AlienFusion.
