I'm gonna be the immature one and say "that's what she said" then continue :D. It's a few times heavier than most 11.6" laptops, so you'll be a little surprised when you pick it up.

Its got a real nice feel and build to it. I was a little worried well ok alot worried since I have a m17x, that this would be cheap more toy like.
Boy was I wrong, plays WOW on high 45 to 50 fps, Call of Duty maxed, left for dead maxed. I throw it up on the steering wheel fits nice and no hassle. I drive a Semi, so easy to set up than the big brother.I really love this thing.

You can down load win 7 free if you have a key then make a usb boot. The instructions are on the forum. Also join steam and it will let you play your games with out the disks. Just input your key and download to your hard drive. That is also here on the forums. Just search it out while you wait for Christmas.. ;)

don't put in too much time. You'll end up pounding out 30 posts per day and annoying the locals

    j/k :p

As for the games, it's a bit of a sticky situation, however, more and more games are also comming out with Digital Download versions tied to your serial key. Like any Blizzard game, basically :D

Well, a lot of people who buy the Alienware M11x are going digital distribution, like through Steam. Personally, I haven't bought a game that used a physical disc in over 3 years. Would somethign like that be feasible for you?

well got mine today... finally after 2 days of delivery exceptions!

but... i open my box to find the m11x pretty scratched up! the back of the lcd panel has a small 3" gash in it deep enough to catch my fingernail when draging across it. along with pretty bad surface scratches on on side on the panel as if someone tried to wipe off the laptop with fine grit sand paper. to make matters worse, after opening it up i find aother nice small gash across the mouse pad and continued over to the palm rest about 5" long.

oh wait.... it gets better. i power it on and a nice green dot appears... a nice christmas green stuck pixel!

so mind you this isnt a scratch and dent nor a refurb for that matter. this i suposta be a brand spanking new m11x. so i call dell and they sound happy to help me. so the guy says i sould recive a brand new replacement for my issues. so he transfers me to a dept. that leaves me on hold for about 5min. and then a message comes on and tells me the the dept is closed and to call back tomorrow... !

    *end rant*

My R1 came with a cracked screen protector like in dropped. I called them to ask if a service tech could replace the screen or hey I could. Put me on hold, came back and said no we can't repair it for you we will build a new one will send the spec's. Now received the one in my spec's. The only problem there is a 1 stuck pixel white way down on the task bar. :(
Called and they said if within 3 inch of center or 3 anywhere on screen they replace but not 1. So I put my Firefly desktop on it very white background hardly ever notice it now. :D

If that would happen to me i'd make use out of the return policy, which is a pissibility if you are not content with your product. So eventhough dell doesn't have to replace your screen, you can just send it back within a few days of your purchase, and afterwards order a new one, untill they give you what you paid for: a non deffective product.

That is exactly what you need to do, and here's another - when you do another order relay your experience and how you still upset with the situation and you may be able to wheedle them down a bit, or get next business day delivery if you act like you may just cancel the deal. Make sure you speak with a US rep, they are more knowledgeable and can bargain more. Sorry to hear about your experience, that is just unacceptable.

I received my outlet ordered refurbished m11x last Saturday and I have had no issues with it what so ever. The top isnt scratched, the hinges still work fine and no dead pixels at all.

Sorry, not to rub it in but someone did ask if anyone received an m11x without any issues and I wanted to respond.

@some_guy: I just got my m11xr2 i7 4GB yesterday. there was a bunch of sticky gunk on the top of the notebook, and a few scratches on the horizontal stripe on either side of the power button (i'm surprised that there is no protective film covering this).

Not really a big thing, but it is always nice to get something in PERFECT condition.

The hotkey to disable/enable the AlienFX (FN-ALIENFX) lights stopped working- does anyone know how to fix this? I think it happened after i
    installed one of the drivers.

Anyways, I'm still pretty happy with the purchase so far, hope to UL a video soon. This machine rocks! :)

Yeah. I think it is important to keep in mind that most internet forums are full of people with complaints. So if you read forums, you get a skewed view because it is usually a vocal minority that posts.

Nobody comes to forums that posts about "yup... everything is working exactly as it should be." Because that is a boring story.

Well the hinges are a known issue. After the many people dissected their machines it's clear there is a design issue that will rear its ugly head eventually, especially if your hinges are secured very tightly. Even loosening them will delay the inevitable.

Otherwise, most of the other issues I've seen is a lot of random noise that comes with most other laptops. What surprises me the most is that Dell doesn't fix it permanently with a design change as well as a repair for existing customers. Then again, it would be admitting error on their part and instead of replacing the 15-20% complaining customers would need to replace nearly 100% of customers. Replacing one failed design part with another does nothing more than delay another failure.

Thanks, Slickie. I tried downloading the latest version of the Command Center from Dell's website. I guess it had already been installed, so I clicked the REPAIR option. The install program then started looking for the CommandCenter.msi program, which I couldn't find on my HD. So it rolled back the installation, and I'm back at square 1.

Not really a big thing- i could still easily disable the AlienFX lights from notification area. Cheers.

My M11x R1 was built in April and I've had no problems with it, no hinge problems, nothing. It's a beautiful machine that games very well. I'm very happy with mine and yes I do open and close it a lot since it is the laptop I take to work and travel with. My M17x is too large and unwielding for that.

What do you mean by so noisy? If you're gaming or doing something that requires the gpu to really kick in then you should hear it blowing away the hot air and cooling your computer.

If there is a grinding or clicking noise then there is a problem. It's a little gaming laptop though so some fan noise should be expected.

happy to hear the some other ppl getting a nice M11x under the tree this year. :)

to update on my earlier post:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/541933-m11x-christmas-3.html#post6994357

i finally got in contact with Dell today. they issued me a replacement with out question, other than was the shipping box damaged? (which it was not)

the awesome part is they are cross shipping me the new one. so i still get to play with this damaged one till the new replacement gets here. (witch should give me enough time to install win7, all my other programs and download most or all of my Steam games onto my WD black 7200rpm 320Gb) then i just swap HDDs, put the damaged M11x in the same box the new on came in and send it back to Dell on their dime.

IMO this should be normal and expected with brand new laptops that come messed up some how. but.... Asus doesn't think so. (looooong story)

i also ordered a 4Gb set of Gskill 1066. so i should be 100% in a week or so
