    Hi all

After the disappointment of the m17x R3 announcement. Ive gone back to my roots and thought about why i wanted a laptop in the first place; mobility! Funny how it went from m11x > m15x > m17x.

Im back in the market for an ALienware m11x laptop mainly for internet browsing (flash heavy), MS office, video editing (cyberlink Power Director) and casually playing upcoming mmos such as RIFT.

Any opinions on what CPU to go for?

    CPU
    SU7300(1.3GHz,800MHz,3MB) £649

    U5400 (3M Cache, 1.2GHz) £749

    i3 330UM (3M Cache, 1.2GHz) £859

    i5 520UM (3M Cache, 1.06GHz) £879

I was thinking of buying the cheap SU7300 model and overclocking it to 1.6GHz. Any pennies saves will go towards (fingers crossed) the rumoured m18x as my desktop replacement.

Music to my ears I wasnt sure how smooth RIFT would run on high, if at all. Dilemma now is whether I should hold out until march for the rumoured R3 release.

UPDATE the R1 is no longer available from the UK website.. Ummmm new dilemma! If by any chance the R1 does come back on sale on the £500 mark I'll jump at it.

Too pricey. The extra money i save now could potentially go towards a screen upgrade for the m18x

Off topic: A friend of mine work at Trion and is on the developement for rift. Played in the alpha and beta and if you like WoW you should like rift. Very felt very similar in many ways for game play and UI and such.

I would def go for an i5 if you can afford it just for the long term usability and probably easier to resell if you so decide as well.

i know this is probably already beat into the ground but don't forget that you can use throttlestop along with oc'ing on the i series to get a potentially much better gaming experience and video editing power.
