Don't kid yourself the difference in performance is not leaps and bounds better. I personally will not even be using the Netbook for gaming but its the best 10-12" laptop around for the price. The closest netbook I could find is the Asus 1215N which doesn't even have DDR3 RAM and they cost the same with this sale. Plus I get a better video card AND a sexy looking machine with a backlit keyboard.

I am SOOOO considering this. The price is pretty damn good.

This is actually one of the best laptop deals I've found thus far and I've been browsing for the last 3 hours on TONS of websites.

No. It's not a Netbook. Other than screen size it has none of the characteristics of a netbook. If you were looking for a netbook, you could have done better.

I can't believe that you can get it for 550!!! That is amazing. I sold my R1 a month ago for a little over 6 bills.

If you are considering a m11x, this may be the best offer you can find.

    WOW.

It is a netbook it has NO CD/DVD drive. 10" Netbooks are horrible keyboards way too small and screen too small to function comfortably without having to scroll your browser window left and right all the time.

    Clearly a NETBOOK

Your clearly just hating. Lets see "you could have done better" lets see anything even CLOSE.

It's definitely an awesome deal. I got my R1 last week for $750, and today it would have cost me $780 (last week's price was more like $1049).

I'm not "hating." An expensive netbook is an oxymoron. A powerful netbook is an oxymoron. An expensive, powerful netbook? That just makes no sense. No official specs call it a netbook. It's simply a misconception based on it's screen size.

    To the OP:

Out of curiousity, I noticed that there was free shipping on all systems until Monday. Can the $50 off coupon work in tandem with the free shipping, or does one cancel out the other?

    Thanks!

IMO $550 is a ripoff considering the terrible specs of what you get. C2D? 2GB RAM? 160GB 5,400 RPM HDD? No Bluetooth?

Also, the i7 is considerably faster than the C2D processors -- especially when overclocking.

8GB RAM is only $89.99 from Newegg and who leaves the stock HDs in these anyway? SSD from newegg for under $200 is FTW.

Doesn't mean it's mutually exclusive. If I buy a M17x and remove the optical drive is it now a netbook?

HA! So all of the 13" laptops that do not include a cd drive in order to place larger batteries, dedicated graphics and other upgrades are now all considered netbooks due to the lack of optical drive?

Your argument is invalid, please leave =D

On another note, holy crap I wish I was from the states! I bought my r1 back in August and payed almost full Canadian price for it. I haven't regretted it to this day, but dang this deal is just amazing!

Netbook is anything under 12" in my personal opinion but regardless who cares about names it is what it is. A small portable computer.

Still worse than getting something from the outlet, and 120GB of storage space is unacceptable for a portable gaming machine... unless you just want to sit there and marvel at how fast your applications load instead of, ya know, actually using the laptop.

Carrying an external HDD with an m11x is FTL.

i dont agree with your point claiming it a hate. being 11-13" does not magically make m11x a netbook. all m11x be it R1 or R2 are classify as laptops. mind you no "netbook" should be running anything outside of that crappy atoms processor. no netbook should come build pre load with Win 7 outside of basic. Read up on Microsoft rules for what is a netbook. m11x may have an 11" screen (11.6" to be exact) but it's physical form factor falls between 12-13" laptops. sorry to say but netbooks that are 11" has much smaller body than this one. The keyboard on m11x is fine when compare against a REAL NETBOOK side by side. its not horrible at all. the actual netbook ones indeed is horrible. lastly no CD/DVD drive is only due to how much stuffs has been claim into the system at the given physical size. example Lenovo X201 is running a full blown core i5 mobile processor with a 12" screen. which is around the size of m11x physically just slimmer also does not come with CD/DVD drive either. and that is not a netbook like you claim period.

also R1 and R2 does have some significant difference as of today. not when it just got launch since it's being bugged by many issues and etcs especially Optimus. It's still not perfect today yet but most of the issues has been iron out with the only 1 major problem which is punkbuster issue that should be the next up coming fix. coming along with TS from Unclewebb does make R2 significantly a more powerful machine over R1 in certain aspect. ppl who have used it cant deny this fact. Do some reading in this forum.

back on topic. you do have a great deal given its an R1. congrats for such a good find and good luck with your new toy.

I can't speak for anyone else but I will not have the need to store anything but WoW and some data recovery applications on my M11x. I repair computers for a living so it will be used for browsing the internet, cloning hard drives and sometimes hooking hard drives up externally to scan em for viruses. If you tune the computer for SSD 120GB should be enough for most people who uses this for their main computer anyway? I personally have a custom desktop I use for burning all my blu ray movies storing music etc....

Personally I think anything less then a 17" screen is bad for gaming its not the reason I am getting this machine as I have a M17x and a custom built desktop I do my gaming on. I am using it for my job (repairing computers) and when I go on vacations its nice to have something smaller and portable it will also be used for sitting in my bed on Sundays while I watch my fantasy football scores and do shopping online :)

    Well this is infuriating.

The M11X was 599-50(coupon) ...I log into my account to buy it and it bumps the price to 950$ since I'm Canadian. Absolute rubbish.

Anyone ordering from Canada know how to bypass this or are Canadians banned from buying one at that price?

The dollar is 1 for 1 at the moment, so it shouldn't cause a 25-30% spike unless the company is extremely greedy. Could be an error on the site, since it was up, with a Canadian flag at the top left of the screen with the 599$ price last night before I went to bed.

They closed @ 8 EST, so I'll call them tomorrow I guess.

I was waiting for my G51 refurb/used notebook to sell and just got 600 (not bad considering they are going for 550 on ebay and 650 at retail outlets) cash for it today, sold it to some buddy of mine who lives near me. I also picked up a nice Gateway ID49C laptop (746.00 value) last week from futureshop, got it for free as a replacement since it was covered under the 3 year warranty i purchased with my OLD HP Notebook DV9897 (R.I.P), i might sell it as well and earn some moolah considering it is BRAND NEW. So now that it is out of the way...

I just ordered my Alienware M11x Premium from Dell.

Processor Overclockable Intel® CoreTM i7 640UM (4M Cache, 2.266 GHz Max Turbo Frequency)

Operating System Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English

    LCD Panel 11.6-inch WideHD 1366x768 (720p) WLED

    Memory 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 800MHz

    Hard Drive 500GB SATAII 7,200RPM

    Video Card 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M

Wireless Cards Alienware M11x a/b/g/n 2x2 MIMO Wireless

Sound Options Internal High-Definition Surround Sound Audio (5.1)

    WebCam 1.3MP Web Cam

1x - Mobile Edge Alienware 11X Portfolio Binder Case

Cost me about 1300 "in total" something including all taxes and shipping! Not bad, plus i liked the -150 dollar deal for online purchases before dec 10.

Wooot Woot, can't wait to get my hands on this baby. =)

Yo man, id order ASAP cuz if you prolong it into the next month, most likely they will delay the shipping due to the Christmas holidays and send you it in Jan 2011 lol. I hope what im saying is NOT TRUE, but that is one thing i fear of most considering their shipping time is anywhere between 15-20 days +
