Can anyone recommend an anti-glare screen protector for the M11x? I still can't get used to the glare. I hate staring at my ugly mug... :p

I think that Green Onions Supply is the company referring to it as being dizzying. I've been looking at that exact protector for a while, but $30 seems a bit high for what it is. Nonetheless, I'll buy it eventually. Dell really should use these on all the M11xs from the beginning, or at least have it be an option when ordering.

i had one in my macbook (aluminum). it was made by photodon and it really, really made a difference. there's very, very little loss in image quality; not noticeable IMO

Cool, thanks for sharing. Yes please keep us updated. As much as I hate to blow $40 on something that AW should have offered as a $10 add-on, it's almost a necessity if it works well. Heck, instead of a stick-on anti-glare filter, I would have much prefered a $50 matte screen option.

Someone has any experience with this brand?
Official Site of ViewGuard® Products including Privacy Filters & Screen Protectors for Laptop, Notebook & Desktop Computers; LCD Screens; Mobile Phones; PDAs and More)
While the one shown here is for a 17.3" screen I know that they have options for 11" screens too.
    Any comments?
Some one just told me that for the M17x R2 he buy the 20" to cut it according to the stealth-like shape of the lid... 'cause the glossy glass covering the screen is frameless... so he need more than 17.3 to cover it.

Yes, I tried their anti glare shileds on M17X with poor results. Really, a waste of money. I also tried the best films/filters from 3M and Photodon and some other brand, even one that costs 150$ and still was disappointed.
Honestly guys, I think the loss of image quality is too great to even consider something like that. You'll tear it away in a few days, trust me. Well, at least I did.
Still looking for a solution, maybe to cut a frame in the plastic cover and replace the entire panel with a proper anti glare screen... Dunno.

The BIG question here maybe: why Dell/AW don't offer for the photophobic people (the big % of adults man after 50~55) the option to configure a matte screen?
What are they waiting for? I have seen those OLED screens in original matte and they are ASTONISHING!!!
    Just suggesting...

Eh, maybe... As more people start buying OLED the price and tech will get cheaper... It will come at a decent price... it may take a year or two though.

Photodon doesn't make one for the M11x. I'd hate to get just a blank sheet because custom cutting yourself would be a major PITA.

I emailed photodon about the M11x and below is the response I got. Basically you'd have to order one similar size and cut to fit. A Dell 14" would fit max dimensions needed to fit full size of screen and cut to size, cost about $14. Although the Dell offered one at $40 is nice because it's pre-cut but for $25 I might try to do my own. They will also cut size to order. Not sure cost yet.

I just configured one. It's about $15 + $2.50 for custom size. The full glass size on the M11x is 283mm wide by 190mm tall (max at top peak). They offer a "film installation kit" too for $13, basically a cleaning kit. With shipping = ~ $38 if I get the cleaning kit.

Does the Dell offered one come with a cleaning kit too? If so, might as well go with them instead of trying to custom cut the size.

RJ1 matte. Recommended for the glass covering screen application. Plus its thin and less diffuse.

I'm tempted to get it, install it on the screen, then use an xacto blade to trim it at the top to match the glass. I just don't want to damage my M11x though.

hmmm... i think that you should put a big sheet of paper up to your m11x screen and cut out a paper one then on the screen protector just cut it out exactly to the shape of your paper. that way minimal harm to your m11x :]

oh and i thought that the matte one had more diffusal than the high contrast had less diffusal over the antiglare films. errr i watched these videos to see how well it would work.

YouTube - Screen Protector Shootout - Part 5A

PART 5A is for the antiglare-matte finish that you wanted

YouTube - Screen Protector Shootout - Part 5B

PART 5B is for the high contrast one.

he shows them inside, then scratch test, then an outdoors test.
    pretty good videos.

I considered putting a piece of paper up to it and then cutting again, but that leaves room for error transferring from one piece to another. Yes I'm anal like that. :)

I ordered a Photodon one today, save me $20! We'll see how it goes.

Actually I asked to cancel my order, but haven't confirmed yet if they can or can't and considering the holiday weekend probably won't hear anything back until Tuesday.

I cancelled because I forgot about the camera and microphone that I'd have to accommodate. If it's too late to cancel then I'll just deal with it and figure something out.

    UPDATE:

I have applied the glare filter I purchased from Dell, and I am VERY happy.

It was a bit pricey, but the piece of mind is worth it IMO. I even had a bit of sun this morning (I'm in Seattle, sunny mornings are rare ;) ), so I could properly test it. I was pretty impressed. Instead of trying to find the sweet spot for viewing, I was aiming the screen directly at the sun. It was viewable, no matter how bright it got.

The glare filter serves two purposes, glare filtering and screen protection. I just had my LCD replaced due to scratches from the keyboard. Now I can see, and my screen will remain scratch-free.

$30 for the filter + tax + 2 day shipping (so it would be here the same day as my LCD replacement) = $47!!! ...I'm still having a hard time sitting down :(

I think it will last a while, its pretty tough. I don't see myself needing to replace it, unless I really screw it up.

Even though it was expensive, I'm still happy. Especially since it will keep the keyboard scratches off my screen.

It's about $40 for me with tax and standard shipping and I'm still debating. I cancelled my Photodon order because I decided I wanted it already custom cut. But $40 is a hard price to swallow when I may be selling this along with my Sager to get the Envy 14.

It comes with a cleaning cloth. I used that and Kensington Screen Guardian cleaner.

I recommend turning on your shower's hot water, and letting the room steam up. Then apply the glare filter in the steamy room. That way you won't have any dust particles get between the filter and the LCD during the application.

Just installed this screen protector it helps a lot, I can now use the m11x in a bright room, but I am terrible at installing screen protectors and have air bubbles. I really wish they would have a factory installed option. $40 seems alot for what it is, but its worth it
