hello, I'm currently interested in purchasing an m11x, I'm trying to spend less than a thousand dollars on an r2 (r3 is too expensive for me). I've been reading reviews and I've had a couple state that the fps in the i core processors is actually lower than that in the c2d model (unless it is overclocked).
I like the overclocking feature, but I've noticed a few people are very against it in their m11x's and it's kind of made me worried about it.
I plan on putting in an ssd, and if I were to go with a c2d duo model I could probably do that immediately, although with an i5/i7 it will have to wait until next semester.
is the i5/i7 a huge difference in the m11x when gaming?

the I5/c2d are about equal, the I7 is a little faster... -
if you dont plan on OCing the R2 or even at least using throttle stop you may as well get a R1 IMO.
also for the record, i dont think there is anything with OCing... -
Software overclocking been berry berry good to me.
-
my main interest with this machine is fable 3 and crysis 2. -
if the i5 and c2d are equal, it puzzles me why they market it for more -
the I5 is about 15-20% better then the Core 2 Duo i thought.. but, with a pinmod or bios overclock that can all be changed. you just need to have a steady hand and the right equipment.

This computer is MEANT to be overclocked, there is nothing there to deter you. If done in the bios it is covered under warranty. My i5 performs great overclocked and TS'ed.

I have seen this kind of repeating post hundreds of times.
People, search bar is not a decoration. Go SEARCH for god's sake. -
Anyways - nothing wrong with the same question asked more than once. Brings new ideas and opinions to the table, also keeps the message board alive with threads and posts and talking. I don't mind it one bit. -
The C2D falls short when games support more than 2 threads.
Put it this way to get 2ghz and 4 threads on an i5 all you do is set a number in the bios and install throttle stop. With the C2D to have to fanny about with solder to get 2GHz and 2 threads. So.. going forward IMO the more threads the better.
I have an i5 and there isn't a game I can't play other than The Witcher 2.
I'll let you know about Fable 3 later. -
Hey everyone! This laptop will be used as my main laptop, replacing my crappy HP envy 14. (That I really hate.)
Knowing that this laptop will be my only computer do you think that the sandybridge i7 is worth it over the i5? Will I notice much difference? -
Hi ninja. It probably won't honestly, but I'd say if you have money for the upgrade, do it, as it is a ULV processor and I'd say if you're gonna use it as your main laptop, get the best they offer. This is just my opinion though, if you're under a budget contraint, you really don't have to get the i7.
-
Alright, anyone know how it would compare to my i5 m460? Seems like it would only be slightly slower?

For a pure processor comparison of performance. Refer to the link below. It's a great way to directly compare performance, the processors are arranged by rank from best to worst.

well your problem is gonna be that dependant on what envy 14 you got it may be a much better spec machine than you can get the mx11 at .
if you want a much b etter machine go for the mx14.
i have the envy 17 and the mx11 r3 both at v high specs- both very good. my 17 runs almost everythjing on high settings my r3 plays almost everything on med settings
M11x - i5/i7 in worth it?
