Hey there everyone, I've been a big fan of NR, but never registered. Happy to be here and contribute!

I'm like many of you who tend to turn over my machines about once a year. In the past 3 years I've owned a Qosmio F25-AV205, an Asus G50vt-x1 that I had to return due to the dreaded keyboard issue, a Gateway P-6831FX that I enjoyed but the size made transporting it painful, and now I'm pretty happy with my current Toshiba A505-S6986 because the 230M and T6600 allow me to play most games at solid framerates while also giving me more than enough juice for HD Video, intense Excel calculations and Powerpoint for work, as well as a portable Media Center.

I'm curious if an iCore or even the SU7300 OC'd can give me the power I need to make it my only machine. If I was fine with the CPU on the FX (1.66Ghz Core 2 Duo 5450) is the M11x up to snuff or will it feel dog slow?

I appreciate the help, I know this may be buried in another string but I searched for days

The M11x should do wonderfully for HD Video, Excel, Powerpoint and etc. work.
Though as for media center, do be aware, the screen is only 11".

As for the processor, the core 2 duo should do well.
I myself own an i7, but a core 2 duo will do.

Alot of people is hating on the 11.6 inch screen. Its really not that big of a deal trust me. This coming from someone who uses 22" desktops and 15.4inch laptops. It is my primary computer and I vow to use nothing else! Rep if i helped. +1

M11x would be fine in any of it's options.
It is far better than any of the oversized netbooks
It is far smaller than any equivalent laptops (13+ being the next step up)

What is the kicker is that it is 11.6 inch, so it is so much easier to take with you. Having done this with the HP mini 311, I can say this changes how you use computing when you have it next to you 24/7. And it games too.

Always remember though, the M15x is only about 300-400 more dollars than teh M11x. Don't limit yourself, if it takes a month or two to get that extra cash for a futureproof gaming rig then do it! Its actually ALOT easier to carry around than most people think.

    Sources: Switched M11x for M15x.

till now i dont know why alienware choose 11.6 instead 13.1 ... should be a perfect marriage with m11x, and looking at the screen should fit perfectly, im sure there is other reasons beyong final price ... but who knows! with 13" screen i could say that you can use as primary, but doing excel etc ... for a long time its not too good on 11.6 !

Man, but that M15x is huge. 8lbs? There's no way I'd carry something that heavy through airports. Been there, done that.

Sources: Switched from 15" laptops to 13.3" laptops, to 11.6" laptop.

Still weighs twice as much as the m11x and has like a half to a third of the battery life.

As for the topic. The m11x is fine as a primary machine as long as you're willing to accept some of the minor trade offs for the portability.

11.6" is fine if you're out and about.

Who sits in a park and does spreadsheets? Accountants?

You're not limited to 11.6" at home or work. You have a plethora of monitor connection options.

I have my M11xR1 connected to two 24" monitors or 40" TV.

Win7 64bit i-Core or SU7300 would be more than enough for your needs.

    My M11x SU7300 OC'd easily beats my single core Pentium4 3.2Ghz HT
