Hello everyone, I am new here and I would like to ask if anybody here had tried changing the Harddrive of m11x to an SSD? ..I plan to change it and also i plan to change the processor..will it work? .. I called dell support before and ask about it but they told me you cannot replace its part and tweak it to the way you want it. but some of the people told me I could..I own a m11x with a dual core processor, i am not sure what version is my m11x but i bought this january 2011, it was one of the new releases of alienware before. i wanna change it to i7 since its only a dual core and i wanna use this too for gaming not just my desktop ..some of the games I play has a little hard time (taking too long to load ) and little bit lagging.. any advice you can give me ? Thank you in advance :)

Processors aren't easy swappable on the m11x. Send em your service tag on a PM and I'll tell you your options based on the revision you have. Also, adding an SSD should be plug and play but it won't run on SATA III speeds. The m11x series is limited to SATA II.

The processors are soldered on the motherboard - they cant be upgraded.

You can install an SSD in the m11x no problem, will work fine.

Upgrading to a SSD will make the computer feel significantly faster. I've got the i7-2617m and when I upgraded it made a huge difference. You wont get any gains like frame rates and stuff like that, but in general it feels faster.

    I thought the m11x r3 had sata III ..?

Yes the M11x R3 does support SATA III. Also putting better/more RAM in it will help :-D

The M11x r3 comes with the QS67 Express Chipset that does support SATA III so it is not exactly limited to SATA II, but you could run into stability issues.
