Okay... Fourth time trying to post this... It keeps posting as blank... Messed up...

So, I had the idea the other day of making port plugs for my M11x for carrying it around, as I do 6 days a week.
I've learn't from my M15x that all the port plugs are prime for gethering dust, and because I carry my m11x around a lot (in Orion neoprene case, in backpack) I think maybe having as little possible exposure as possible to dust would be good... My classroom's air conditioner's tend to blow out a lot of fluff and dust... Who know's when the filters were last cleaned??? o_O

I'm thinking mainly the Display Port, HDMI, Ethernet and USB... Possibly the card ports... Jacks I'm not gonna worry about.

I don't use the Display Port or Ethernet at all really, very very rarely.
    I'm mainly on wireless.

I'm thinking some kind of mouldable rubber or soft plastic... Not sure what.

I have access to a laser cutter and 3D printer from a frien, so he may be able to come up with dome idea's and help.

Just seeing what people think of this idea, if it's semi-decent or just outright stupid?
And if anyone has done similar.

One of my main concerns is how to mould them, another is that I don't want to damage the ports with such plugs...
eg. Not too hard of a material and to get the measurements right...

    Cheers all. :)

... Ah man... a quick search on ebay bears fruit... Sorry all.

    Dang it... Thanks anyway. :)

Food for thought if anyone's interested I guess.

What did you seach to find them on ebay? Did you have to find each plug individually? I tried searching "port plugs" to no avail

Edit: Found them under "Port Dust Covers"

Your first link has an HDMI one. I think it would be interesting to try to make one for the display port. Maybe make a mold out of plastic and fill it with silicone caulk? I wouldn't know were to start on a mold though

The link has a display port one too.
    Top left hand image.

I was thinking I'd just go to my local computer repairers and buy a busted laptop or the likes to make the molds from.
There's piles of bricked gear there.

I was thinking of using warmed kneadable wax, to make put into the ports to get the shape, then freeze them.
Then use a putty around the wax and let it set.
Then heat it gently to let the wax soften and melt and then with the mold I'd fill with a silicone or rubber material...

Yeah that guy on ebay has pretty much all the port covers you would need. I actually plan on ordering a full set for my m11x and my x51 and optx lcd.

I need port covers for when I move them around.

I have been unable to find the 1394 fire-wire port plug anywhere, and I think it may be too small to make a mold for. Have you been able to find one?

The guy ebay used to have them, his selection has gotten very small since the last time I looked.

Maybe send him a msg and see what he has left.

I haven't seen any anywhere... Amazon have these anti-dusk plugs too... I can't find one for firewire, but if anyone else does, please do let us know... Preferrably black...

Ever since I got my m11x I have been in search of some nice port covers. I dont use most of the ports on my laptop, usually just a single usb port for my mouse.
So, I found a set on ebay.
    Silicone waterproof Dustproof plugFor DELL Alienware M11X R1 R2 R3 | eBay
They come as a full set for each port, got them today and started to install them. First impression was pretty good, they fit snug, but are easy to pop out when needed. They are soft black silicone rubber and seal up the ports real nice. Here are some pictures.

They even came with a nice chrome alienhead sticker :)

Sweet. I wasted a 5er on some generic plugs (I think they were for a MacBook). Total waste of money really as I can only use like 5 of them (they're not great) and the rest don't fit!

All of these ones fit great except for the SD card cover, it doesnt sit flush, I am going to do some trimming on it to see if I can get it flush.
