Hey there, just asking if anyone knows how to tweak around the optimus graphics so that the 3D vision actually reads the GT-335M and not the intel HD display?
The Nvidia 3D vision kit wouldn't work unless it's running on GT-335M.

Somehow for the nvidia control panel too, every program can have the option to run with integrated graphics or nvidia graphics, except cyberlink powerdvd 10 3D. It states that "nvidia 3d settings cannot run with the primary display adapter" under the description.

    Thanks! :)

hmmm... no one knows how to solve this?

One thing's for sure, Dell technicians can't.

Why are you messing with it? You don't actually think the 335m is strong enough to run any recent games in 3d do you? You have to be able to crank out 120fps to run the Nvidia 3d unless I'm wrong.

You should also be aware that you cannot use 3D Vision with the Alienware M11x's display - you need to connect to an external monitor capable of 120Hz.

As DaneGRClose was alluding to, I think you'd be better off skipping 3D Vision on the M11x, and use it on a desktop instead. Even if you could get it to work, your experience is going to be sub-optimal because the nVidia 335M GPU can't really crank out enough graphical horsepower needed for 3D.

M11x HDMI v1.3 has limited (if any) 3D signalling, you really need HDMI 1.4a
DisplayPort v1.1 (M11x) had no support for 3D.
    DisplayPort v1.2 has 3D support.

3D gaming and video is more the domain of the Nvidia GT4xxM series.

You don't have to crank out 120FPS to make 3D vision work. 120FPS is generally assumed to be the optimum framerate required for 3D Vision as it equates to 60FPS in game (as the frames have to be duplicated for 3D the effective performance (and thus FPS) is halved).

^^^^ I understand that part, but I've also seen/heard that anything along the lines of 60fps(aka 30fps in 3d) looks like absolute crap, everything I've seen indicates that if you can't crank out 90-120fps on a 3d game it's not worth playing in 3d and the m11x isn't gonna crank that high of frames on anything recent.

    Anything new on this topic?
The question was related mainly to video playing and not gaming. The GTX335M should be able to to handle 3D video playing (at least that is what NVIDIA claims in its site).
You can connect a 120Hz external monitor to the DP of the m11xR2 without problems. The issue is how to install the 3D vision driver and make the stereoscopic player see the NVIDIA card instead of the Intel.

Tell me if u get this solved. Bc I have an m11x r2 and the aw2310 and was wondering if it was possible.

I'm probably going to get an m17x r3 to output to the monitor at some point.

Basically I think to have 3D your GPU needs to be good enough to process everything twice (which is why 3D is usually done on newer or SLI cards) because the "3D effect" is actually two images playing a trick on your mind. So yes some games I think the 335M GT can handle it, but for example BC2..I wouldnt count on it.

As for getting the kit to start. Try to install a MODDED inf version of the nvidia drivers at least for the install than reinstall old drivers...

I don't think it will ever work, since the R2's ONLY display outputs, due to the design of Optimus, relies soley on the Intel IGP to drive the laptops internal screen, the DP output, and the VGA output. The R1 would work, since the GT335m is directly connected to the HDMI output, however, the R2 doesn't have any video outputs from the 335m - only a PCIe link.

I wish they just made the R2 same as R1 but with the same R2 processors (if that is even possible) :( ...
My friend has an R1 and honestly he never deals with the problems like I have with my GPU (At least they seem to be fixed with the new BETA drivers)
