    Hey.

I've recently downloaded L4D2 on Steam onto my M11X. I can run Crysis maxed out on this thing, but L4D2 brings it to its knees for some reason.
I've set Steam and all games involved to run with the Nvidia graphics card and not the integrated, ands have even tried going into the game data and manually opening the .exe file with the Nvidia card but regardless of what I do, L4D2 still runs very...choppily, and sets "recommended settings" at 640x800 with all details low.

Anyone know what might be going on?

What driver are you using? I am using 260.99 and it runs amazing.

White listing steam is pointless. It's simply a launcher for your games, or in some cases a launcher for the launcher. It's going to have zero impact on whether or not the 335 is running for any game.

The newer versions of the nvidia driver have L4D and L4D2 white listed already.

As blab8811 has asked, we need to know what driver you have installed.

I have the same problem the op has but I'm on 189.69 for a driver I think. L4D2 is on the white list as well but nVidia doesn't recognize it as being installed on my computer. I tired white listing it and saving but it still doesn't give me anything. Should I upgrade drivers?

I guess maxed out is all highs, no AA, native res, and it runs at 22-30fps

But for some people maxed out is ultra settings, 60fps or more, 1080p, etc.

And L4D2 runs almost maxed out on this thing at native res, you have some problem with the Nvidia card, I mean, the game is not using it....

You can run very well LFD2 in R1 and R2, if you have R2 whitelist your .exe of the game and in R1 press FN+F6 to switch to the nvidia card.

i just downloaded the 260.99 drivers and now I cant get the graphics card to work. I uninstalled the old drivers, ran a cleaner, and installed the new drivers but the green arrow icon isnt showing up in the corner. Do i have to enable it somehow? i have the r1 model btw.

Well the problem is that you have an R1 which requires special drivers to allow the graphics switching, such as the drivers on the dell site. The 260.99 drivers will work for an R2 because it uses optimus for the switching.

oh ok that makes sense. Well I never use my laptop for long periods unplugged so is there a difference in performance? I may just leave it in discrete graphics mode

Well you'll only get ~3 hours in discrete only so if that doesn't bother you then discrete only mode may actually get you better performance because you can use the latest drivers.

Edit: that may be a high estimate, you probably won't get an longer than that though.

I get much longer than 3 hours running my M11x in discrete mode only. I get 2-2.5 hours gaming on the thing so 3+ hours is easy when not gaming.

As for running Crysis maxed out on a M11x..... er no. All high settings at the native resolution absolutely cripples the M11x (shadows on high will crucify the framerate). Medium settings (or mainstream on Warhead) is playable but tbh to play Crysis on the M11x you need either one of the CCC configs or lots of times to fiddle with the config yourself.

I have recently been playing Warhead on my M11x and whilst it is playable with mainstream settings it is much smoother using the "high" CCC v3.0 config. Framerate using this config is between 25 and 35fps depending on where you are in the game, it does drop to 20 or so on occassion but these dips are rare and don't really affect the gameplay. As a side note I am overclocking my GPU by 30% on the core and 11% on the memory so no doubt this will help in such a GPU limited game like Crysis.

So to summarise - Crysis @ All high (or maxed out) on the M11x - no. Crysis heavily optimised running a custom config - yes.

Oh and as for L4D 1 or 2, they both run fine on my R1 a long as I set the effects setting to medium. Everything else can be high or very high with 2 or 4x AA.
