Dell Canada shows only 1GB on the GT540 with the i7 whereas Dell USA lists it as a 2GB GT540. Why is this?

Don't care about that, 2gb is useless, there will never be used and even if a game use more than 1gb the GPU isn't that performant to handle that, go with the 1gb it's really enough.
(PS you should buy your PC in USA instead of Canada, the taxes are just insane and the USD is lower than CAD, just a bit but this and taxes makes the difference).

^Can't speak for why Canada vs USA site is different, but I agree with the above. You'll see several experts around here tell you that the extra RAM won't make any difference. Unless you're using very high resolutions, you don't make use of the extra RAM. You'd have to be gaming at native resolution on a 30" to need the 2GB, but the GPU would only be sending out about 2 frames per second! (Idk the real figures, but it'd be bad!) Apparently even 1GB is overkill for the native resolution of the m11x, and still wouldn't be used up if gaming at full HD 1080p (on TV perhaps, or full HD monitor)

however, the integrated graphics on the i7 runs at 950 MHz maximum, while on the i5 it tops out at 900 MHz so you still get that little bonus from the i7.

to be perfectly honest, pick up the phone and speak to a sales rep, they'd be able to tell whats what. based on my research, the i7 processor should provide you with 2gb graphics ram, but speaking on behalf of all other members here, 1GB ram is more than enough ram condsdering its only year 2011.....

The 1gb is the i5, so get i7 for 2gb for bragging rights and to be able to call it i7.
