    OK,

So I have an m11x r2 which I would like to restore. I bought this laptop used and received it with a fresh install of win7 wit hall alienware stuff on it.....

I'm assuming the person who shipped it to me did a system restore WITHOUT the disk. So, I tried doing the same but there is no option to restore.. on start up I hit F8.... tried F12 and F2 as well but to no avail. It seems that there is NO dell datasafe or alienrespawn applications on my current install of windows...

Is my best option to just used the disk that came with the laptop to restore?

    thanks...

If you DONT have , like you said, alienrespawn or DellDataSafe backup, probably it means that he did a clean re-instalation.
Here is the link of the Alienrespawn so you can create your recovery media:
    http://alwchecker.alienrespawn.com/alwchecker-en.html
You will notice that is a very easy program to use, and I HIGHLY recommend you to create your "recovery media" as soon as possible.

Now, they are two different methods, to use the media you have created with DellDataSafe backup/Alienrespawn or any other recovery program OR using the CD that it came with your alienware. Using the recovery media COULD (Depending on the option you use while recovering) make your computer return to the "Factory form". Using the CD that it came with your alienware will make a "Clean" reformat.

Any questions, go ahead and ask :)

    thanks for the response.

I think I am going to go with the CD option. Even if its a fresh install of windows I guess I can just downlood the dell and nvidia optimus drivers myself.

There is a probably a thread about this but is there a list anywhere of all the drivers needed after a clean install of windows? Also with links to all the alienware applications? (command center etc...)

Yes, there is a thread about clean instalations of Alienwares (Here in notebookreview.com )
Here is a link you will need after you make the Clean re-instalation: Drivers & Downloads - Public Sector
This link includes ALL drivers (including command center...etc) you may need. If I remmember, I saw once a thread recommending to install certain drivers in a certain order. I just remmember at the moment that command center was the last one you need to install. I am at the work right now, but as soon as a go back to home, I will try to find that thread.
Now, if you do a "Clean re-instalation" , probably you would like to recover the alienware "feel"in your m11x :) : http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...ook-feel-after-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

    Good Luck

Before you try to download your dell datasafe/respawn, just make sure you still have the recovery partition. You won't be able to install them, let alone creating recovery media.

You can restore with the CD and then install all of the other features from Dell´s website:

    Drivers & Downloads

You can get OSD´s Command Center, bios, Display drivers and even stuff that doesn´t even come stock... as of the custom booting windows screen you can use something like logon manager (free on cnet)

Good luck, let us know what you´ll do
