Alienware M11x Laptop Details | Dell

599 on alienware's website. sorry if this is redundant.

edit: this might be a sign that they're trying to get rid of their R1 stock because it was just on sale less than a month ago and now it's back at the same price...

From the dell forum Chirs said
"I heard from my friend that they got the hinge problem solved.
    * That is true for the M11x-R3 but false for the M11x-R1 and M11x-R2. We are still working on the solution. When it is resolved, I will let you all know. No, I do not know when the R3 will be available nor do I know its specifications."

So looks like a r3 is in the works. See the m11xr3 thread on here for the link.

I read that thread.... its vaporware till something is announced formally if its from your average Dell rep....

I am betting we might even see the old R1 as an optional item for purchase for say $400 or so as an option on the new M17x-R3 at a point... just to get them out of the warehouses.

you should buy it from best buy.com instead its 799 which is the usual price but they customized it with a 250gb hdd instead of the 120gb hdd and gave it 2 more gigs of ram also they have a really good insurance plan

I sure hope this was sarcasm. Even adding those upgrades from Dell you're saving $100 from BB. The retail m11x has the same standard 1 year warranty as buying direct from Dell. Unless you're talking about that extra insurance they sell, in which case Square Trade will give you the same amount of "protection" for cheaper.

I was going to buy the best buy version for ease and quick shipping and I can say that Im glad I didnt. I got the same configuration as the best buy version plus an external optical, lunar silver, and custom nameplate for ~$730. That was also including tax and shipping so when factoring that in the savings of $105 and I got more then if I went with the BB version. Plus Im pretty sure if they updated the hinge I got that as well. All in all well worth the extra wait.

R1 and R2 hinges are still defective. They have designed a new hinge, but only for the upcoming R3 models.

R1 definitely is worth the price, very nice, prefer it over the R2 atm

I bought mine for $550 shipped, but it came with 4gig RAM and a 320gig HD, also a samsung display and stable OC

The good news is I only owe about $164 left on it.

How well does the base model for 599 run? Do I need to upgrade it at all like to 4gb ram and a better hard drive? I just play wowCata but do want to try dc universe?

I play WoW Cata on my base spec m11x and it runs great. Just remember to turn down shadows and everything else to High. I planned on upgrading the ram and hard drive almost immediately but it runs so well that I'm not in a huge rush.

As for DC Universe, I haven't tried that yet but as long as their isn't a drivers issue it should run great.

How did you get the ram and hard drive upgrade for that price?

I'm seeing it on the US site as 599 (-50$ coupon) for 2g ram and 160GB HD.

I purchased one yesterday with this sale and the 50.00 buck off coupon. So for 599.00 I receive the R1 w/4GB of ram. Shipped and taxed came out to 650.00

That was about the same cost as an Asus refurb G60 I was looking at for 620.00 The Asus was 16" though and I really didnt want a monster laptop anymore like the old gateway FX. Plus.. well its the refurb roulette wheel... I figure if im playing roulette with a refurb with minimal warantee I might as well play roulette with the hindge issue and have a 1 year warantee and a fix coming down the pike (R3 which will hopefully trickle down to the R1s and R2s)
