    Hey all-

Like a couple other others around here I was in the market for a gaming mouse to complement my new M11x-R2 (Core i7, 4gig RAM, Bluetooth, stock 500GB, HDDrive, etc.). As I mentioned in a reply or two to other owners posts asking for advice on buying a mouse, I was trying to decide between the Orochi, Logitech G9x, Wireless or wired Razer Mamba, Mad Catz R.A.T. 7 or wait for the R.A.T. 9. A few other brands/models were suggested and I got some very helpful advice, but sorta dropped the ball as I got busy with work. Well, while watching Breaking Bad (S2 Blu-ray- great show, start watching if you haven't yet!), I just made an impulse purchase via Neweggs iPhone app and 2 days later I was using the Orochi to run around Borderlands!

Just a few points- This mouse fits everything I was looking for just perfectly- bluetooth for non-gaming which I love since there is no dongle to break or lose. I think logitech's micro dongle is great, but I've lost 2 and broken the last one because I left it plugged in, as recommended, and put my laptop in its case with the dongle on the bottom (case is a vertical style). I'm just glad I didn't damage the usb port.

Anyway- no more dongles. The cable for game time is nicely flexible and soft (braided fabric covered), it uses replaceable batteries which I prefer, the on the fly rez switching and on board memory to save profiles is awesome. The profile storage was something I didn't really know how useful it would be until I went to play on my Macbook Pro and there were all my custom layouts! Love the blue lighting to match my favorite blue lighting profile and the mouse's overall color is the same as my 'soft touch' black M11x. Perfect!

One semi major grip are the side button placements. The thumb side ones are ok, but I can barely click two on the right side of the mouse without looking at them or even picking up the mouse (i have them set for the on the fly rez switching, but they can be configured for other uses). I'm sure it's something I'll get used to, but I mis-click them pretty often at the moment. Bigger buttons would have made it easier.

Overall I would recommend this mouse without hesitation, especially if you're looking for one for your laptop. I use a full size, corded sidewider x8 mouse with my desktop and I'm still intrigued by the RAT 7/9's, but I have zero buyers remorse getting the Orochi for my M11x.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers!

Likewise, lovin' ma new Roccat Pyra. Or a month old should I say. Only thing is the battery dies out very quickly, like 5 hours, though it's rechargeable with the USB cable.

Use the orochi in wireless mode for a couple of days, then tell us how much you love it... ;)

I've been using my Orochi daily since I got my M11x in July.

I love it. I like it in some ways better than my Mamba. The main being battery life.

You may feel the Orochi is no good because of a one second bluetooth lag, but I personally feel that opinion is way over dramatized and not that bad.

So, I've been using it wirelessly for a few months and still heartily recommend it. Too many Pro's outweigh that con. And if your self esteem and self worth and ego are so wrapped up in whether or not you lose a frag that you won't even consider the greatness of this mouse, then you've got bigger issues than bluetooth lag my friend.

The Orochi rocks. I highly recommend it. Yes, a better micro gaming mouse will come out one day. Probably by Logitech. Until then, my recommendation goes to the Orochi

I'm thinking of getting it but is it really useless for gaming in wireless mode? When I take out my laptop just to browse or write I usually don't mind using the touchpad. Oh, and how does it affect the m11x's battery life?

Well having Orochi paired using BT will not do wonders for you battery life, but you will not see a dramatic decrease. I have never actually measured the power levels with BT on and OFF but I can tell you that it probably will not make much difference.

I have had the Orochi since I had the laptop (Almost 3 months) and I like using it. Yes, the 1 second lag is annoying but I can deal with it and its not that big of a deal. You will not notice is in FPS games as much since your hand is always on the mouse and movement is always there. The lag is more prevalent in other games (FPS for example), but I also do fine in SC2 with the mouse.

I've had the mouse for about a month now. And personally, I can't stand the wireless lag. So much so, that 95% of the time I have it plugged in with the wire, whether I'm gaming or not.

When I first got it, I was gaming in wireless mode for a couple of days, thinking "hey, this isn't so bad", but eventually it does get to you. At least it did to me. Granted, if this was a computer I used for only an hour or 2 a day, it probably wouldn't bother me. But my m11x gets 10+ hours a day of use (for work and play), so what seemed like a tiny annoyance in the beginning eventually amplified to unbearable proportions.

Having said that, I love everything else about it. The look. The feel. The size. Perfect in every other way, which makes it all the more frustrating.

    My 2 cents.

I'm in the same camp as THX5334- the brief lag after the mouse has been idle for a bit is so short (for me it's got to be less than a second) I hardly notice it- in fact just the action of me putting my hand back on the mouse is all the time it takes to "wake up", so by my first movement it's gone. Obviously even the smallest lag would kill any fun while playing an FPS Multiplayer, but I haven't tried gaming with it in wireless mode yet so I don't know if I'd have problems or in RPG's/MMO's as well.

For daily, non-game use, bluetooth mode is great. I bought the bluetooth option on this PC hoping to find a mouse like this because gaming mice usually have better ergonomics than regular ones, plus have more features/bells-and-whistles.... and while I didn't think about any lag, I did read the reviews that mentioned it so I expected it, but those reviews also said that it was a great gaming mouse in wired mode and really the best in it's class. I'd have to agree with all that. I haven't see a mobile class (i.e. smaller) mouse that offers gaming features, no dongle and the ability detach the cable. Day four and I'm still very happy with my purchase!

I was just wondering if any of the other Orochi owners here having a hard time with the BT lag were having lag times of more than a second. Also if you have more than the Orochi paired and connected while using the mouse in BT mode.

    I recommend Orochi as well.

I do notice the BT lag but it's not much of a concern to me. I plug it in when gaming.

I feel left out as I use an old GE optical mouse. Can't beat the two dual scrolls and two buttons by my thumb, though.

I'll throw a positive review in as well, got mine back when I got my M11x, and it's been great.... wired is best for gaming, but honestly, it's totally fine wireless as well. A GREAT small gaming mouse!

I've been playing with my Microsoft 5000 (another Bluetooth mouse), and I find the lag easily bearable. Especially compared to the ancient wireless mouse I had (which mostly lagged and stuttered :p).

Even though all these reviews seem to be good I think I'll just go with a regular 2.4 ghz wireless. No use in having a cool wireless gaming mouse if I have to wire it up every time I want to game. Too bad really, I would really love saving a USB slot and using BT instead..

Works fine wirelessly for WOW and starcraft, even better for games where the mouse is constantly moving. Maybe cause I'm only a casual gamer it just doesn't bug me.

    Another positive review here.

I've had mine for a few weeks now and I've put a fair amount of time in with both modes. I can't say the bt lag really bothers me, I thought it might but honestly the most trouble I've had with it was the occasional over shot of where I wanted to place the cursor. One thing I did notice in that respect is the effect becomes rather significant if you have the sensitivity up high. I just make sure I keep it down to a reasonable amount for standard browsing and such. I always plug it in for gaming which is great, the thing is super responsive and contrary to what I've read in other posts glides around effortlessly on my kabuto. I imagine a game that you constantly move the mouse around would probably be just fine in wireless though.

I game with it wireless all the time. I play mostly FPS, and I have yet to have BT lag cause me a frag. I've yet to even notice when happens. And if it did happen, I really don't care enough to get rid of a mouse that is great to use for general tasks, much less complimented on and asked about by girls in airports when I bust it out waiting for a flight.

Gaming with it wireless rocks ;)

    Hello all,

My Orochi seems to enable power saving mode every few seconds, leading cursor to lag when it wakes up. It makes the very difficulty to use Bluetooth mode !

Has anyone had a solution to kill this lag in Bluetooth mode !?

No solution for the Orochi. Just plug it in, I guess :(

I noticed my MS 5000 BT mouse has two "sleep" modes.

One is a "light" sleep mode that happens after about 10 seconds. It takes a fraction of a second to respond.

Another is a "deep" sleep mode which activates after about 5 min, which takes a full 2 seconds or so to wake up.

Then there is the physical switch :p

I have noticed, in Starcraft 2, there is a noticeable, very subtle, lag. Kinda messed up my opening worker split :( Off center from there, but I still won :)

    Two questions:

    1) What's the weight of the Orochi? I prefer heavier mice for control.

    2) Does the Orochi have a sandpaper-like texture on its sides? I love that feature on my Logitech G500 but it's wearing out already. A rough texture really helps with grip during tense games.

Thinking of getting one. Thanks. :D

    1) it's actually pretty heavy for its size, with the 2xAA batteries contributing a large portion of it

    2) smooth as silk

Heavy is good as long as the weight is evenly distributed. It should be if the battery compartment's in the middle.

I might just have my uncle add a Godzilla texture to the sides, like he does with his handguns.

Just ordered the Orochi after seeing the positive feedback here. Thanks, guys. :)
