I'm looking for a sound system to go with my M11x and I was thinking of a 5.1 system. Post up if you have any ideas!
I game with this computer and listen to music almost every time it is on (double bass pedals FTW)
EDIT: Or even a sweet 2.1 set up. I'll be surfing newegg for the time being.
EDIT2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121048 This has caught my eye.

Is Headset an option? Like the Logitech G35.

Well, just going by brands Klipsch definitely has a leg up on Logitech. I've never owned anything from Klipsch, but I've only read great things about them. Between the two, they both appear to be rated pretty well, but I would go with Klipsch.

I own two Logitech sets. The Z-5500 is my 5.1 set, though definitely out of your price range, but it is great. I also have the Z323, which is 2.1, but nothing special.

I gather you've come to realize that you won't be able to get a particularly good 5.1 set within your price range. If you're mostly concerned with music, then I would definitely recommend a nice 2.1 set like what you've already found.

I think a sound system would be more practical for me than a headset.

I use an ONKYO 7.1 receiver and KEF speakers via the M11xR1 5.1 multi-channel. :D

One nearly poos one's shorts gaming in 5.1 Audio.

Great sound on A/V DVDs and potential for Blu-Ray when external USBs become more prevalent.

    Another option is Bluetooth

Another thought is IEEE 1394, there must be some cool stuff out there for that, you just don't hear much about it.

Thanks for your help! This system will be going on my desk in my small room and it is sounding like 2.1 should be enough. I wouldn't mind spending the extra for the 5.1 but it just doesn't seem too practical for me.

Well if I end up disappointed by some mysterious force with my purchase then I will definitely consider something like that. However I'm hoping that will be highly unlikely! :p

BTW, I am currently using a 2 speaker set up. Sanyo from the 90's (only god knows how they lasted this long) so any thing I buy will more than likely blow my mind.

I have the Razer Mako 2.1 setup and it's fantastic. A bit more expensive than what you wanted but it sounds awesome and fits all on my desktop (and yes the lights on the control pad match my m11x :). If you could find a deal it would be worth the stretch IMO.

I got a kinda old system Sicuro 5.1 system they are pretty good problem is finding them I got mine for 100 bucks. They are loud and depending on what you listen to you will have to tweak with the settings. Everything is controlled by a infrared remote. They also have this techno lighting system, basically lights inside the speaker covers that pulse and flash with the music and you can turn this effect off as well
