So for the last 48 hours I have been randomly locking up while gaming (I've only been playing The Old Republic so that's the only game that it has occurred during). My computer just freezes completely and becomes 100% unresponsive. CTRL ALT DEL does nothing and I have to hard boot it. The first time I noticed it was after installing the new nvidia beta drivers, so I uninstalled them and went back to my other set of drivers - but it's still happening.

Once when it froze it made a sound very similar to the BSOD noise, however the BSOD never appeared and I just went ahead and restarted. I got new RAM over a month ago, however this is the first time I've had any problems like this so I'm guessing it's not the RAM. Any help would be appreciated!

    FIRST:

    Try this:
    1: Right click on desktop
    2: Click "Nvidia Control Panel"
3: Click Sub menu "Adjust image setting with preview" under "3D Settings".
4: Check the Bubble that says "Let the 3D Application Decide" Under the nVidia preview.

    IF ABOVE DOESN'T WORK:

    Reinstall the Nvidia drivers -here-.

In worst case scenario, it may be a hard ware issue where you would then have to contact Alienware Custom Support. I've dealt with them When my Alienware m11x keyboard backlight stopped working. They paid for the shipping, and didn't chard me anything, then I had it back within 6 business days.

Does not sound like hardware since you said it only happens under The Old Republic and no other games.

Since you did mention you upgraded your RAM, try to troubleshoot it and replace your old RAM and see if it repairs the problem as well if the above does not work. You may have a bad stick of RAM or a RAM slot may be damaged.

Best of luck to you, I'll be watching this Thread.

One way to try. Go to BIOS and set the graphics for DISCRETE so the integrated graphics will never be on. That's what I did for mine. If I get a graphics card in a laptop, why do I need integrated graphics?
