For the past year or so I've been drooling over these newer Windows 8 "ultrabooks" for their high-res IPS displays. I love my M11x but the one thing that has always bothered me is the display. I don't mind the resolution (it's fine for 11.6 inch) but the viewing angles are absolutely horrible. I've been dreaming of replacing it with an IPS LCD, and I've finally found one. It's a ChiMei N116HSE-EA1, same panel used in the Zenbook Prime. It's 11.6 inch 1920x1080, matte, Super MVA (high contrast, wide viewing angles, like IPS). It's out of stock, but most places are selling these for $90. The problem is it uses a 30 pin connector, and the M11x has a 40 pin slot. Is it possible to get these two to work together? From what I've read, it seems that even between two 40 pin LCDs they might have different pinouts, so would this be a nightmare to figure out how to wire it up or could it be as simple as finding a 30 pin to 40 pin adapter (if something like that exists)?

Wow, sounds like an awesome project...1920x1080 on 11.6" is some serious pixel density. And no doubt any of the M11x's can push that high. The MB connector though is going to be a rough/expensive challenge though.

An interesting project. I wish you good luck on this! Problem points like you mentioned would be somehow converting 40 to 30pin. Then you might have to see if the M11x can even power the panel or if the IPS has extra connections etc on the mobo.
LCD replacement/upgrade is 30 pin
